“A good hotel for a stay in Swakopmund”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2013

We visited Swakopmund in a time when resting at the pool was quite impossible because of the weather. It was too cold and windy. So, check the weather first before you pay extra for a hotel with pool. This is one of the more expensive places in Swakopmund. The facility itself is reasonable but no big deal. It is quite close to center. A bit annoying is the fishy smell because of the Marine Aquarium.

I recently spent a weekend with my mother in an apartment at Beach Hotel in Swakopmund. What luxury!!! The rooms are spacious and in terms of bedding and furniture it is apparent that only the best will do. The views all around are spectacular, having the ocean out one window and the dunes out another. the buffet breakfast is to die for and DO NOT leave without having the deep fried camembert !!! The chef really knows what he is doing and the variety of food is divine. Not your ordinary menu. What a fantastic stay, we will definitely be back!

Even though it is officially rated as a three star, I would rate this hotel as a great four star, perhaps even five star.

Try get one of the luxury rooms- you can upgrade if rooms are available on checking in.

The restaurant is delicious and well priced.

The location is superb and within easy walking distance to the centre

We stayed here in november for 3 nights. Nice new hotel, staff very good, breakfast one of the best buffets in Namibia. We had a free upgrade in room, very nice. Only one thing: the pool on the roof is not used very much till now because mostly it is too cold. We were lucky that we had a perfect blue sky so we used it.
But to come out of the pool you will have to use a stairs with is tiled. This one is very slippery, no warning or nothing, so we did not know. I felt down the whole stairs and really get injured seriously. So management please do something with that, we informed the reception about this.
All other things, great!

My friend and I stayed for 2 nights and found the hotel enjoyable and attractive. It seems to be in a rather quiet section of town yet a fairly easy walk to other areas which were more active.
The apartment we stayed in was large, clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts were very good and the servers friendly and attentive.
The weather was quite blustery and chilly during most of our stay so we didn't get to enjoy the lovely roof deck or pool although I'm sure it's terrific on a warm, sunny day.

The front desk staff was extremely helpful in booking us on an excursion with a company called Hata Angu. The day with Hata Angu ended up being a key highlight for us during our 5 weeks in Southern Africa so we are grateful to the hotel staff for helping us book this wonderful sandboarding and cultural activity.

Upon my arrival in October 2013 I was met by reception staff that were as sour and unfriendly as when I phoned to make the reservation.

Room was most comfortable (marketed as a luxury apartment) with a lounge/dining/kitchenette area, seperate twin-bed bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Reasonably furnished with a mix of cheap, but new, 'antiquish' and modern combined. A balcony with chairs and a table was a let down as the already cramped balcony's walls were too high to see the ocean when sitting down. Otherwise great seaviews from both bedroom and lounge.

Sleep quality was not good with standard hotel pillows so soft that it provides no support. It was rather chilly weather and an additional blanket would have been appreciated. The blinds let through too much of the outside light (the building accross the road have rather strong spotlights) and early morning sun. Sporadic noises from the shower drain troughout the night was unpleasant and poor ventilation caused smells as well. Soundproofing is poor and the neigbours' crying child was a great disturbance early in the morning.

For a hotel charging premium rates, it lacks a few basics. Television that is viewable from the bed is missing. Telephone only in the lounge area. No "Do not disturb" signs to hang outside the room door. No extra blankets. Poor lighting througout the room/unit and no desk lamp at the writing/work desk. Bad service from most reception staff. Understaffed breakfast area with the quality of breakfast average at most with nothing unique or special. At $150 per night (single) one would also expect pure fruit juice, not juice concentrate!

Will I be back? Probably not.

I have stayed here twice and it is a great location with a friendly and accommodating staff. We arrived late and the restaurant prepared dinner for us although the kitchen had just closed. Early morning walk to the lagoon, filled with flamingoes, then a great made to order breakfast featuring brotchen. Wonderful! There are suites to accommodate families. Don't worry that it is located on the edge of town, so to speak. Everything in Swakopmund is within walking distance.

Room Tip: Book early! The family suites are likely to fill up, and the sea views go first. The balconies are g...
