“Great location, no service”

I am not a fan of the namibiam smoking policy. Anybody can smoke anywhere inside any restaurant, so it is extremely unpleasant for non smokers. The restaurant is literally on the beach, so you cannot get a better view, but the foul smell coming from the sea makes it unpleasant, and it is a bit chaotic with you having to put in your own orders. They have a "self help" policy. Between the chaos and foul smell, we decided to leave and go eat elsewhere.

“The hot spot in Swakopmund”
Reviewed 27 December 2013 via mobile

On my Journey a local guy recommend the place and this spot on. This is THE place for a Sundowner in Swakopmund. Located on the beach, a thru laid down club where you can eat and drink. Dress code cassual or less, it is easy to mingle with other guest. Located just south of the aquarium.

“Great location and service”

We went here to watch the sunset and it was glorious. Such a nice, friendly place. You order your drinks at the bar, they give you a number and then they are brought to where you are sitting. I saw some food bring served an fit looked good too. There was a real mix of families, groups of young people and couples here so everyone fits in. If it is a nice evening then it is definitely worth a visit. I think it is closed on Mondays.

“What A Difference A Year Makes”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Background: Acting on a tip from our overland tour guide, we sought out this establishment at the outskirts of town by the beach. The taxi brought us to the entrance, where a short sandy trail led to a dark and grungy beer garden frequented by drunk students or the "seedier" denizens of town. Now, this scenario was eleven months ago.

Impressions: After a recent revamp, the place now looks fresh and updated, combining an open-floorplan concept with cleaner design elements. The most prominent improvement was covering the sandy ground with wooden flooring. They still retained the partial walls, but the canvas tent roof was replaced by fine mesh netting. All of these, no doubt, were intended to improve the ambient lighting, take advantage of the stunning ocean view as well as to maximize the viewing angle from anywhere in the restaurant -- rain or shine. Way to go!

PROS: Location... location... location is its best asset. Situated by the beach, it offers a good panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and of the Swakopmund jetty at a distance. The ambience is not just informal, but downright casual and laid-back. The food is relatively cheap. I had the large seafood platter, which was of generous portions and adequate taste. Service was friendly and accommodating.

CONS: Two come to mind -- ease of location and its general dinginess. For all of its excellent location, it takes a while to find it. There are no paved roads surrounding it; it is more or less at the end of Sudstrand Street. As for its former appearance, it did look like an abandoned refugee camp in total disrepair. There was sand everywhere: the ground, tables, chairs. It was also dim. After receiving an order stub, we had to personally and individually pick up our food from the kitchen at the back. Lastly, the way to the WC (toilet) was confusing and there was a menacingly-looking dog guarding the entrance.

Verdict: In such a short time, this place has elevated itself from a grungy beer garden into a clean, family-style restaurant. The management may have changed and the food may have improved, but the service remains at its excellent level. For this effort, it earns an extra star. Recommended. Grade A-minus.
