“O.K. for One Night”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2008

We booked one night at Sea Breeze Guesthouse. I want to begin by saying the owners are delightful and want to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. The guesthouse itself is in a pleasant neighbourhood of Swakopmund. It is not on the ocean but you have a view of the sea from the breakfast room and common room.

Our accommodation as you can see by the photo was spacious. We booked a 'double room' which we thought would be what the pictures indicate on the website. When we arrived the owner put us in this room. The room was clean and spacious. My fault with it were the beds.

Even though we booked a double room, we got two single beds that we pushed together. However that wasn't even the real issue, it was the uncomfortable beds!!! Also the bedding was very cheap and should be discarded. The worst though was that after returning from dinner and crawling into bed, the duvet smelled as if it hadn't been washed for some time. I'm not referring to cigarette smoke either. The one on my husband's bed smelled fresh like it had been laundered so we shared his duvet. You can see from the photo what was on the bed, a bottom sheet, the duvet and a blanket folded on the end. The duvet had no slip cover to change and launder which I did not understand and yet there was no top sheet between yourself and the comforter. Did housekeeping forget the top sheet? We did not sleep well and the room was a big disappointment.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2007

We spent 3 nights at the Sea Breeze Guest House in Swakopmund. Actually, it is located in a small suburb just north of the town and thus having your own transport is almost a requirement (about a 10 minute drive from downtown Swakop). The guest house has a view of the ocean and is about 2 blocks from the actual beach. The gardens are wonderful for a coastal town that gets little-to-no rainfall. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and an overnight security guard is employed. Accommodations are split between 2 buildings located next to each other – we stayed on the 2nd floor of the main building. Our room was nothing fancy but it was comfortable and clean with 3 twin beds and a large bathroom with tub and separate shower. Our room did not have its own kettle or fridge, but a communal kettle was nearby with available tea & coffee, and the hosts allowed us to store stuff in their fridge and freezer. Breakfasts were typical for B&B’s in southern Africa, with some fresh fruit, cereals, breads, cold meats & cheeses, and a hot breakfast cooked to order. They do offer a laundry service, but we found it to be more economical and quicker to drop off our laundry at a nearby laundromat in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon (located near a petrol station and grocery store en route to town).

  • Liked — Rooms were clean and comfortable and staff friendly and helpful.
  • Disliked — Cigarette smoke smell inside (but I'm not a smoker).
