The checkin was smooth and very easy, and the location is fantastic. It is not in town, but is only about a 15 min walk to the banks and shops, so its worth staying here and walking. The rooms are a little dated, but adds to the character of the beach side hotel. The views are amazing, over the bay, and all the sea birds. Breakfast is good, nothing super special, but all you need for a great day out. Make sure to walk the 2 mins to eat at the "Raft" restaurant next door. Really fun place, good food, and friendly locals to chat with.

The wifi is a little slow, and you need to get a new password ever 6 hours, but it is free, so not really an issue.

Hotel is facing the bay and with all the wildlife, Flamingos, birds and water sports the view from the rooms is great. There is a nice, marked 3 km path way along the bay, so I ran from the hotel out and back - 6km really fun. Lot's of local people training and walking the dogs. Rooms are not too big but sufficient. Nice for business, will not stay here if on holiday. Staff not trying to hard, just doing what they have to, asked for someone to help repair the safe in my room, never happened. Europcar's offices is at the Hotel. No gym and they don't refer you anywhere.

The hotel is located in front of the bay and from the rooms you can see flamingos! It's really nice and you can forget to be in a harbour area. It's a normal traditional architecture as the ones you can find in US. Rooms are quite comfortable even if not too large. Very nice commo area with fireplace and many sofas. Rich dinner buffet.

We stayed at Pelican Bay Hotel during our visit to Walvis Bay. For this specific trip we were interested in staying by the ocean, rest and do some activities. Pelican Bay is located right next to the promenade in Walvis and it is therefore a decent number of restaurants, cafes and tour agents in the immediate proximity. One can easily walk from the Hotel to these places, which makes transport very easy. The hotel is located right by the shore, and all rooms are facing the Atlantic Ocean.

The staff was very friendly and helped us in a great manner whenever we asked for help or advise. The standard of the rooms was also good and we didn't feel we missed anything during our stay. I think it is good value for the money!

We spent the past weekend at this hotel. My first impression upon arrival Friday night was that the staff were not too friendly and certainly not overly helpful.

Whilst the room was small, the beds were firm to hard. The linen was crisp and clean and there were more than enough pillows. What did impress me was that there were hollow fibre as well as fluffy feather pillows. I loved that.

The bathroom however needs quite some attention. It appears that the room at some stage was flooded. The cupboard under the sink shows sever water damage. The door to this cupboard has become unhinged and hangs loosely to one side.

The ground floor rooms have a door leading onto a small wooden deck. From this deck it is but a few step to the edge of the Walvis Bay lagoon. I found this to be a great feature, but the door handle is loose and soon will fall off. Another drawback is that this door can only be opened from the inside. I guess it was designed this way as a safety precaution, but if the door happens to close behind you, you are stuck outside your room.

On Saturday night we were rudely woken by a security guard who demanded we close our windows. According to him he had spotted some "undesirables" lurking around the hotel. Surely it would be this persons duty and function to ensure the guests are safe and not run around in the middle of the night waking all occupants and giving them orders!

Our breakfast was good. The staff serving the patrons though seemed very distant and disinterested.

In closing I'd like to state that I find the rates of this hotel exorbitant. They have a great location, yet the staff and rooms do leave a lot to be desired.

After a three day trip in the desert on the way up to Walvis the Protea was a welcome stop over. We chose to stay in Walvis as we figured that should we require service to our cars, Walvis would be a better stop than Swakopmund. The proved to be the cae as several cars in our group required repairs and the hotel reception gave good advise on repair and spares shops etc.

Good rooms and good service. Everything worked except the wi-fi which was down on coverage. The breakfast meal was adequate and as expected.

We will stay again

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Bay are great

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night, after a long backroad drive from Windhoek, so we were really looking forward to arriving. Check in was smooth and painfree. The rooms are quite nice, not 5 star, but definitely the 4 star that this Protea has attached to it. The furniture has a beach feel about it, making it feel like a proper holiday hotel. We had a ground floor room which was really lovely, as you can open your door and walk straight over a small piece of grass to the edge of the Lagoon. Although the Walvis bay harbour is right next door, it wasn't noisy at all. Breakfast was really good here. We didnt have dinner at the hotel, we went nextdoor to the Raft restaurant which was fantastic as well. We saw Dolphins, Flamingos and Pelicans. The Wi-fi doesnt work at all, we tried it in all places and could not get a connection at all. Staff were friendly and would suggest this hotel for those wanted to stay out of the main towns of swakopmund and Walvis bay. It really was worth the stay.

Room Tip: I liked the ground floor rooms, I would request one of these.
