“Great location, clean and big rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

Despite the fact that the reviews for this hotel are not really good we made a booking and were pleasantly surprised. It had all we had asked for: a very clean 2 bedroom suite (3 single beds in one bedroom, a large double bed plus a single bed in the other bedroom, two full baths, a small living room plus a room with a table and a huge fridge) for the four of us (2 adults, two teenagers). The furniture was somewhat outdated, yet everything was in good working order. In the bathroom plenty of vanity items were provided, not just the standard soap and shampoo collection, but also shaving kits and hairbrushes.

Noise from the roundabout in front of the hotel was audible but not too bad. A/C was weak in one bedroom, but very good in the other bedroom and the living room. We did not hear noise from neighboring rooms or the floor above us. The pool in the yard was kind of a let-down, the water was very cold (cooled?) and the since the filters did not work (water line below filter openings) I was not sure about the water quality. However the water looked clean and there were buckets full of chlorine stacked up in one corner of the yard, therefore I assume it was ok, at least we did not catch anything. A sufficient number of sunbeds were provided.

The big surprise was breakfast, which was much much better than expected after reading the reviews. It is true, by western standards the dining hall is not very appealing, but I think that's how it is in this part of the world. The food, however, was surprisingly good. There was a decent selection of standard western breakfast items (toast, jam, scrambled eggs, sausages etc.) as well as some oriental dishes and a huge table with all kind of Omanian pastries, both sweet and hearty. In short, there was plenty for every taste. Service was friendly and attentive.

The hotel is on the fringe of the old town, only about 3 km from the Souks. There are some restaurants nearby, among them a Pizza Hut.

Staff at the front desk was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is free in front of the hotel.

Despite the odd furniture we liked the hotel and would stay there again. Remember it is only a 2* hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street might experience noise from the traffic in the roundabout.

This hotel is outside of the old town and the rooms are nice and quiet. The swimming pool is very refreshing. Dinner at the hotel is very tasty and has a reasonable price. The rooms are very big here with great a/c. The staff are very helpful. I would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: the rooms number on the ground floor around the swimming pool are 5-9

We stayed on night in the Al Diyar on our tour of Oman. The hotel is basic but the rooms are clean with clean bedding. It was adequate for our needs for one night and the breakfast was warm and plentiful.

Positioned on a major road outside of the city among a number of new car franchise dealerships this (dry) hotel offers a mid range price for the traveler. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds (well mine was) clean with a good toilet/bathroom/shower,TV and telephone, although some of our party didn't get their wake-up call as their telephone failed to work. It boasts a smallish swimming pool but in rather drab surroundings.. The main reception area is comfortable and always manned by English speaking staff. The buffet breakfast range was cosmopolitan and well supplied from the nearby kitchen.
As a one night stop over this hotel met all our requirements.

Room Tip: My room was on the ground floor, the door facing the pool (no noise) and the window facing the road...

This hotel was certainly not the best of the 4 hotels we have used during our vacation in Oman. The rooms are very average. The bathroom is below standards: water was running out of the shower into the bathroom. Bathroom needs a good cleaning!!!
Swimming pool was there but did not look in very good condition. One of the stairs to go into the pool was gone and could be found against the wall. No current to see in the water what made us think that pumping did not work or was put out of service.
Breakfast was OK but nothing more. The tables are covered with a plastic to make cleaning easy. But the restaurant should get a very good cleaning in all corners. It is clear everything is cleaned "quickly".
Hotel located close to a busy roundabout with all the noise related to this. Hotel is about 3 km from the center of the city.
Luckily the nice city, especially the market on a Friday morning, compensated a lot.

Not untypical for an Oman business/tourist hotel but wouldn't recommend it. Noisy (situated on a roundabout on the way into town), and our room was full of ants and had a shower that clearly hadn't been working for some time. The management seemed uninterested in this (though some of the staff were as helpful as they could be). At 45 OR one would expect more.

I read other reviews which have had varying problems from noise to bad food, but I have never experienced any of these and I have stayed here a number of times.

Al Diyar is a modest hotel with nothing to write home about, but the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. They have air-conditioning, a fridge, television and the bed linen & towels are fresh and clean; All rooms have private en-suites. Perhaps the decor is a little heavy and not up-to-date, but if you just using the hotel for sleeping or resting after a day of visiting the sites, does this really matter?

Buffet dinner and breakfast are included in the cost of accommodation. Both the dinner and breakfast buffet offer a reasonable choice of dishes; although they are nothing special, they are quite tasty and satisfying. You can also eat at an outdoor area to the side of the car park near the front of the hotel. Other than eating at the hotel, you need your own transport or taxi as there are no restaurants close by. I can recommend the Turkish restaurant a couple of kilometres up the road.

Al Diyar has a pool area - which is a great place to cool off on a hot day. It is a cold water pool which is not unusual in Oman. Wifi is available for 2 rials. The hotel is approximately 5 kilometres from the centre of the city, Nizwa Fort and Souq.

I am a frequent traveller to Oman and have stayed in different hotels in Nizwa which are lovely but over-priced. In my opinion, Al Diyar is a reasonable hotel for a reasonable price.
