“Worth price”
Reviewed 17 March 2014 via mobile

Compared to other pricey hotels in this region decently priced.

Good rooms, just be prepared for long walks as rooms are kinda lot to walk ;)

Kitchen let rooms with good wash rooms and friendly staff. Situated in strategic place and very close to airport.

Have stayed here a number of times now. Its new, rooms are comfy and of good quality and have kitchenette. Bathrooms are of a good size and well appointed. Its built over a mall so plenty of shops on the doorstep. The staff are always friendly and helpful and remember my name as a repeat customer. It does not have a liquor license as of yet and unlikely to get one as it is built in a public space. Breakfasts are good but on occasion I have found the hot buffet to be tepid at best.
Would recommend this as a business type of hotel.

With the Crowne Plaza full and the Hilton £250 a night we looked for somewhere else to stay and found this one. Excellently located, barely 10 minutes from the airport and on top of a new mall although not so good if you want the beach. Beautifully appointed with very friendly and helpful staff and plenty of places to eat. There is even a large Carrefour in the Mall.

The Salalah Gardens Hotel is a modern, clean and comfortable hotel located on one of the busy Salalah roads, so getting out of the side-road can be a problem sometimes. If you know your routes around, use the back roads !

The steps up from the car park can be a problem if you have a lot of luggage. The porter is most helpful !

Apart from that, check in was simple and quick, the staff were delightful, and my initial room was located on the 1st floor along a myriad of faceless corridoors and several odd areas clearly intended for seated gatherings. With two bags in tow, the countless doors began to get tedious.

I arrived at the room and there was a connecting door through which I could hear young children screaming and a lot of shouting. I turned and went straight back to reception to ask for another room, which I was given immediately after I explained I needed peace and quiet to be able to work into the evenings.

On arrival at my allocated room, the door key worked perfectly and there is a wall mounted slot for a card that enables the electrics. Be aware the card only works one way round !

All was spotlessly clean, and I was a little surprised to find a kitchen sink, a 2-ring stove top and a microwave / grill / oven arrangement plus an electric tea kettle. But no coffee, tea or milk. Then I found the full sized 'fridge. Clearly one was expected to walk across the plaza outside to the local massive Carrefour supermarket and provide your own tea, coffee and milk etc. Fine. Or there was room service. . . .

There is no minibar (or bar) facility.

The 'safe' was a joke. Hiding in the wardrobe and screwed down to a removable shelf. . . .hmm.

Oh yes, there was an ironing board and iron also hiding in the wardrobe, occupying about 60 or 70% of the usable hanging space, so that got taken out and stood in a convenient corner.

2 complementary water bottles - enough for a drink and a cuppa (once you've done your shopping).

The view out over the expansive plaza area was rather nice, and clearly this is a well liked, well used area of Salalah for all, centred by a huge fountain with multi-coloured lights under the water. There were coffee shops and eating places all around, and the adjacent shopping mall is just massive.

The room's aircon worked flawlessly, and is fully adjustable to individual tastes in terms of temperature and air flow.

The bed was huge, and very comfy. It took a few minutes to figure out which switches did what to the lighting.

The corridoors that I referred to earlier are a touch noisy as other guests and staff pass by as there is no sound deadening at all in the corridoors, just hard, acoustic-reflective surfaces all over, and the room doors do little to prevent the ingress of such sound.

The work area was a little small and cramped for my liking, and the wired internet did not work as I expected it to at all. In the end, a technician was sent up and all he could offer was another CAT5 cable to complement the three I already had with me. After a few minutes I twigged the phone system was VoIP (Voice over IP), so on a network. . . pulled the phone plug out and tried the laptop instead, bingo. Internet connection. Sad the 'technician' didn't know this too. Internet was fast and uncomplicated from there on.

Bathroom and walk-in shower were excellent. Exactly as one expects these days. Two sets of towels provided, (the big towels are rolled up under the sink and are huge).

This was a two-night, three-day business trip for me, so I needed somewhere I could work in peace in the evenings and rest. This hotel certainly provides all of that.

The hotel 'green environment' policies are excellent, and cover towels and bed linen. A nice touch.

One other downside - this hotel is fairly close by the airport. There are flights operating at some odd hours of the night that can cause disturbance.

First and most important: DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE AIRCREW AND NEED TO REST.

This is a new hotel within the Salalah Gardens Mall complex.
Was met by a very pleasant Rhoda at the front desk who, assisted by Front Office Manager Syed, put me through check-in and gave me my keycards.
Room was modern and well appointed. I unpacked and lay down to close my eyes for an hour....

In-house staff were still cleaning well into the afternoon, basically screaming at each other in the hallways. Seemed to be all male which didn't help as voices carried further. Boss man came and did more shouting.
This went on into the night with various comings and goings from staff.
Last straw was concierge moving a guest into the room beside me at 4am, literally throwing cases off his cart onto a tiled floor and having a full on conversation at the same time.

Will I go back? Doubtful.

Recommendations:
Carpet the outside floors to reduce the ridiculous sound levels.
Train your floor staff on how to properly conduct themselves during the night, and also on how to lift furniture when cleaning rather than drag it across the floor as per the room about me.

Apart from the excellent front office staff, the rest of this two day epic was a waste of money.

I have visited this hotel several times for business. On each occasion I found the staff to be excellent. I also found the rooms to be comfortable and great value, each room has a kitchenette and you can upgrade to a suite or larger room if needed but for the price cannot and value for money cannot be beaten
