Went to this place on recommendation. If you climb the stairs and reach the top you can see the view over Taqah and the sea.

Taqah castle is located in the main city of taqah in southern Oman. It takes around half an hour to reach here. Just located few meters away from the taqah beach. This castle was built in 19th century and is relatively new as compared to other castle located in northern oman. This has been a private residence of Sheikh Al Ma'shani. In 1970 it was used by Wali of taqah as his office and residence. Later on it has been turned into museum showcasing old Omani way of life. Entry fee is 500 baiza for adults and 200 baiza for children's upto 12 years. Timing from saturday to thursday 9am to 4pm and on friday 8am to 11 am.

This castle was built for Sheik Ali-Bin Timman al Mash’ani in the 19th century. It served as the residence for 11 other governors/ sheiks and the Ministry of Heritage took over the castle in 1992. The castle has been restored to its original design. Sultan Qaboos bin Said reopened the castle in 1994 and this is a beautiful castle to tour!!
There are so many rooms and buildings to enjoy. There are some steep steps, so wear sturdy and sensible shoes.

Visited here as part of a study abroad program with our university. This place offers a walking tour of the grounds where you can look at authentic living quarters as they would have been historically. Narrow stairs and walkways require some care and not recommended for those who are impaired physically. Much to see and read here on the site. Enjoyed and learned much regarding Omani history.
