We arrived at the beautiful, historic Panamonte Hotel a bit early for dinner, so we hit up the swank, old-world bar before dinner. It was fantastic. Great drinks, outstanding atmosphere, great service. Definitely check it out! Now onto the restaurant. The food was very high quality, and everything was neat and clean, the staff were courteous, and it felt like perhaps the Panamonte Restaurant had not changed much for 100 years: it is a intended to be a high-end restaurant, the nicest in town. It felt like that, and you pay for it. The formality did slightly put me off, the rigid barrier between server and person being served. The place has a bit of an air of colonial pretension, some stuffiness. But this is just me - I like friendly servers and to learn about a place by chatting with people regardless of what their job is. So if you're not overly sensitive about stuff like that like I am, you won't care, and will fully enjoy the beauty of the setting and the excellent food at the historic Panamonte.
