Hostal Suenos Del Rio
Ranked #13 of 27 Boquete B&B and Inns
Reviewed 30 March 2014

You are no longer a backpacker but hate snobby places without souls? Then Suenos del rio is the place for your stop in Boquete. Uber-friendly staff, clean rooms, great location, bargain prices. We slept at another very expensive place the night before and we had to fight hams before finding this vacation saver! Reading in the hammock by the river was fantastic.

Thanks, gracias, merci!

Room Tip: Ask for the river side

Booking.com put the wrong address on their info!!! (Itza said that she told Booking.com several times, but unsuccessful) When we asked at another hostal, they gave us the rigth address and we found this nice little place. We had a room at the riverside: nice and peaceful! Itza was very friendly and helpful, we had a good time here and would choose this place again!

Room Tip: Riverside rooms are more quiet than front rooms.

Booked rooms for 3 nights through Booking.com, confirmed through emails back and forth with the owner Itza right after booking and the day before arriving. Upon arrival, was told by Itza that they had double booked and they didn't have room for us. Despite corresponding by email a few days after booking, and reconfirming the day before arrival we were denied a room. However, everything was fine according to Itza because she had arranged for us to stay at another place for the same rate. However, this place was much further from the city center and a decent uphill walk just to get to the shops in Boquete. When she took us to the other Hostel we were told we should be happy she even found us another place. She was visibly agitated when we didn't readily accept the situation and kept asking questions. In the end she muttered "Hasta nunca" when leaving, assuming we didn't know any Spanish since we had conversed in English. Very unprofessional ownership. Beware that they may overbook and not honor your reservation, regardless of how many times you reconfirm.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and upon arrival we were given the choice of an inner room or the renovated (and still rough) honeymoon-like suite. There are two kitchens (full fridge, stove, microwave, blender, dishes, etc.) available to guests. WiFi strong in the library, with weak signal in our room. Electricity was consistent. Fans in the rooms (but Boquete is pretty chilly at night). We didn't have hot water often (burts of cold to warm to hot to cold), but that seems a rare luxury. The owner is sweet and extremely helpful! Located right behind the Romero for grocery needs, with bank, pharmacy, bakery, and restaurants all within walking distance. The location felt very safe. Right next to the river; beautiful place to relax. Great library with spanish and english books. Excellent deal. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The largest room with sliding glass doors is very private but still under renovation. Staying there...

Suenos del Rio is just north of the bridge near the downtown area. It has 5 rooms only, which rent for $20-$30 (women stay cheaper because they cause fewer problems). The rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely painted, with art on the walls. All rooms have private baths. There are TVs and free wi-fi in all of the rooms. There are 2 kitchens to cook in and 3 fridges to store your food. There are 2 sitting rooms, plus a covered outdoor patio with couches, hammocks, and a tall wooden table/bar. It is right beside the river, gathering the cool breezes. Most nights the sound of the water lulls you to sleep. You will not get a better deal for clean, quiet lodging in Boquete.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river are quieter except for Saturday when the bar on the hill plays bump-bump music un...

Itza, the owner, welcomed us and took the time to show us a map of Boquete and all the suggested attraction. The room was small but clean. The yard with view to the river, the mountains and acces to hammocks is great. The building accross from the hostel is the back of a supermarket. Delivery trucks arrive early in the morning so we recommend taking a room in the back of the hostel (on the river).
The hostel is a short walk to all ameneties.
