Los Establos is a beautiful mountaintop retreat set amid lush gardens and coffee trees. We spent five glorious days at Los Establos and enjoyed great adventures every day. This boutique hotel is perfect for relaxing, exploring and reconnecting. Our 12-year old son was with us and had a blast. Ingra is a sweetheart and goes out of her way to ensure that everyone feels at home. The cottages are simple but comfortable. We had no issue with the wind while we were there. We cannot wait to return to Los Establos next year and enjoy ourselves again! Susan

Drove with my family to Boquete from Panama City after staying two days there, and checked in for a four-night stay at the Los Establos Boutique Hotel during the late December holiday season, 2013. From first appearances the hotel seemed very nice and homey, with very open orchard and garden areas nestled in rainforest, as well as a gorgeous view of Boquete in the valley below. The manager was helpful, and the hotel offered several different entertainment amenities such as a pool table and computer with internet (though pool was a little difficult since the walls around the table were so close, it was nearly impossible to take some shots with the long pool cue stick lol). Every morning the very nice and helpful staff cooked a delicious breakfast for us from a menu of about 5 different choices. Its pretty close location to many fine restaurants and attractions Boquete has to offer is also a plus.

Anyway, the first night we were here we stayed in rooms located in the main building. The rooms were clean and fairly basic, but still comfortable and we slept like rocks. However, the second day there we moved into one of the smaller suite buildings close but not connected to the main lodge. These were very charming and prepossessing.

However, one of the big issues that occured at this hotel was the WIND. The whole time my family and I was here, the wind was just howling incessantly and we weren't completely sure if the buildings we were staying in were going to collapse or something, especially at night. This made it rather difficult to sleep here. We even asked one of the employees if it was always so windy here, and she said it was year-round. This put a bit of an impediment on our stay here because we were so exhausted much of the time. The sound of the wind kept us awake for much of the night all three nights we stayed in the smaller separate-building suite.

Overall, I would recommend Los Establos Boutique Hotel. It is very elegant, and the staff is overall quite friendly. However, if actually sleeping well is a concern, I would recommend to either stay in the main lodge building for the sound of the wind was not really an issue there (at least on the bottom floor), or bring ear-plugs or some sort of sound-cancelling device. For at least when I was there, the sound of the wind keeping me awake was a considerable issue, and apparently the strong winds are pretty common here.

Los Establos is a small quaint inn located on the hillside about a 5 minute drive from the center of town. Breathtaking mountain/volcano views, beautiful grounds, very peaceful. Staff is very attentive. Ingra at the front desk helped us coordinate tours and transportation before our trip. The ladies in the kitchen are awesome. Always smiling and providing friendly prompt service. We took advantage of their 4-6PM happy hour with complimentary beer, wine and snacks. Breakfast was included and is excellent. The entire place is laid out like a large B&B with common shared areas like the living room, billiard room, dining room, kitchen and outdoor terrace. Rooms are clean, modern and with luxurious amenities. The spa literally opened up on the day we were checking out so can't comment on that. Overall an excellent peaceful mountain retreat to have as a base for a few days in Boquete.

Room Tip: Although they're limited, try to get a room with volcano views.

We stayed at Los Establos for 3 nights in February. We chose the all-inclusive, which included all the meals and an activity per day. We had our 3-year old daughter with us, so for additional space, we chose to stay in a cottage. The extra space is quite lovely, but I think we also would have been fine in the main house itself. The place itself has a more rustic feel to it, but with all the amenities you might need. The view over the valley and across to the volcano is beautiful (the communications tower slightly distracts, but what can you do?!). And the little playground for young kids was a special plus in our book!

The staff was incredibly kind and warm, especially with our daughter. It happened to be our daughter's birthday while we were there. I asked if we could do a small something special at dinner and much to my surprise, they brought an entire cake out complete with candles - and everyone joined in the singing. It was really quite special and I am very grateful to Ingra and the kitchen staff for going above and beyond.

For the activities, we didn't have any problem arranging these with Ingra. In fact, she was more than happy to give us two activities in a day given that we were only there for three nights. And also included additional activities that wasn't on the main list, which was awesome. The guides they arranged for us were fantastic - especially Jason - and knowledgeable about the local wildlife and birds.

All in all, we very much enjoyed our experience at Los Establos and recommend it highly to others who will enjoy a place that isn't in the middle of everything - not that Boquete is a really busy place! The people who work at Los Establos really make it special.

Booked a room here over a month in advance through their official website, confirmed one week prior to our trip. When we arrived we had trouble finding the place so we called for directions. The man who answered the phone at reservation refused to give us directions and stated repeatedly that he had no rooms available and that they were not expecting any further guests with reservations. We had to go through multiple hassles to find an available room in Boquete since there was a Jazz festival going on that weekend, plus we had to ensure that our pre-paid reservation money was refunded to our credit card.

Don't bother making a reservation here unless you're prepared to scramble for other accomodations if they decide not to honor their commitment. Also, when we figured out where the hotel is located, we realized that it is quite far from the Boquete town center so it would not be convenent for travels who might want to explore the local restaurants, cafes, and tourist excursions.

My wife and I stayed 6 nights at the Los Establos in one of the rooms in the main building. Very spacious with an excellent view of the Volcano. The grounds consist of lush planting ,flowers and coffee plants. Each day my wife tried to photograph the birds that visited the gardens. The staff was wonderful. When we arrived they made us feel welcome."Part of the Family". They discussed and arranged all of our activities. Zip lining, coffee tour, bird watching, trip to the top of the volcano and even a fishing trip with transpiration. Meals; we had the plan which included all our meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff would prepare each meal in the kitchen and include different local recipes. One desert served was from a recipes her grandmother used to make. This personnel touch gave each meal a home cooked feel.. I speak very limited Spanish which was never an issue. The town of Boquete was a 5 minute cab ride or a 40 minute walk. Very friendly in the town and finding a cab back to the hotel was never an issue.

Room Tip: Rooms in main building has an excellent view, plenty of space.
