We were honored to be the first guests of the Hotel Palo Alto (formerly the Cascade Hotel under new management and refurbished) over the Christmas holiday and were thoroughly delighted by our stay. Robert Cook, the friendly manager, did everything in his power to make us feel welcome, including a bottle of wine awaiting us (in lieu of being able to get a drink at the bar which won't be finished for a couple of months). He led us up to our beautiful room with vaulted wood ceilings, super hot shower, mini fridge and flat screen TV. Best of all was the screened in front porch with a view to the garden below and the mountains beyond where we had breakfast, practiced a little yoga and just drank in the view. It was breathtaking. The garden is utterly charming with winding paths and places to sit and enjoy the gurgle of the stream running through it. Hummingbirds zip and dart about and a variety of birds visit in the morning. Robert and the owner Justin, who also runs a tour company in Boquete (Safari Tours), were very helpful in suggesting hikes and restaurants and sight seeing drives. Justin's mother and father were helping out as well, so we just felt like part of the family. We will definitely return for future visits.
