My husband, our three year old, and I really enjoyed our four nights at the lodge. The lodge is very rustic and removed from the modern world, which is part of the appeal. We enjoyed the opportunity to be far from the hustle and bustle of the cities and normal tourist-industrial complex. The morning trip to the snorkeling beach was lovely; how often do you get your own private tropical beach in a pristine natural location? There are no jet-skis, peddlers, restaurants with loud music or other interruptions.
This is not the lodge for you if you are picky about your food, bedding, and luxuries. The food is good and the servings were large enough to keep us full, but there is a set menu and the food isn't cooked to order. The cabins were clean, but as clean as a structure could be with open windows and a thatched roof. The shower was refreshing, but the water isn't heated (this was fine as it was quite warm and humid when we were there). The beds are a little saggy and it is quite hot at night unless you open the door and take advantage of the breeze.
Overall, our experience was fantastic. The staff is helpful and friendly. Our son loved running around the island collecting coconuts or hunting for hermit crabs at night. The scenery is amazing and the sea is wonderful for snorkeling and swimming.
Make sure you bring flashlights to look for hermit crabs at night. And while we didn't see mosquitoes the no-see-ums are blood thirsty and you will need Deet. There isn't any formal entertainment, so games and books are essential. The cabins aren't that brightly lit, so if you are reading a paper/non-electronic book a reading light would be helpful.
We stayed four nights because we didn't want to be constantly on the go with a small child, and we are glad we did.
