“Staying in Paradise”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

Just spent 5 days at this beautiful resort - What a amazing place the whole family enjoy the stay from the snorkeling & kyaking to the friendly staff to the host Jerry.

The rooms are fantastic with veiws of the ocean when you get up in the morning.

The Bridge Bar is the place to hang out in during the day with a lovely safe beach for the kids and food & beverage avaliable throughout the day.

The main Restaurant is great with a great menu to choose from and good servive
Xmas we had a lovely Buffet in the restaurant with all the trimmings it was a great day with a lot of people and a few large groups.

The snorkeling trip out to the island was fantastic - (better than the Barrier) with a large variety of tropical fish right up close (next time i will bring or hire some diving equipment).

Overall what a fantastic resort, great Food, great service & friendly staff who are always willing to help - i give Jais Abe a big thumbs up and will be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked great, We had 2 Adults & 3 kids so options where based upon our family.

I spent Christmas at a birthday party in Jais Aben Resort. It was packed with a great band as a backdrop to this unique landscape. The Manager couldn't do enough for us. The staff were great, as always. I'm a frequent visitor to this last bastion of real life. Such a perfect spot to relax far from the madding crowd. I'm no princess so never travel to tourist regions. This remote paradise welcomes strangers with all the professionalism of a 5 star resort. BUT, the true PNG hospitality shines. Well done to the Manager and staff for the great work. I'll be back next year to do the trip to your volcano. The day trip from Perth is so worth the Jais Aben experience. Compliments to the chef by the way.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view.

Five amazing friends, decided to spend Christmas together, away from the busy working centre of Lae.

After a bumpy five hour drive, we arrived at the scenic Jais Aben. One couple decided to go to their room and found trouble upon opening their door, as their key didn't work (door wouldn't lock, even after receiving help with a master key).

That evening dinner was a three hour affair. Apparently the chef is slow.

Getting here for a Christmas dinner, the resort guests were advised that we could not enter the restaurant and that the restaurant was booked for a private function, guests were told to eat at the bridge bar, only with a lunch menu for choice. Last night we planned a sit down dinner for six. We arrived and took our seats at the restaurant. We ordered and were still waiting for food after two and a half hours, while the manager Jerry, sits at the bar entertaining guests, while his paying guests are served by over worked yet friendly staff.

When speaking our discontent to the manager, apparently "all the food comes out after 20minutes" - he is unaware and content with this quality of service even when being told that it is quite the opposite.

This criticism is based upon encouraging a positive and constructive change to this beautiful sanctuary in Papua New Guinea, as it truly is a fabulous location.

This review is based not so much on the resort and service, but on a personal matter involving the guest and management. We didn't stay here, but on the Sunday morning of Father's Day when the fans at our flat in Madang town suddenly stopped due to a power outage we knew *exactly* where we were going to be spending the day. Jais Aben!

We staked out a table in the outdoor bar by the beach and enjoyed swimming in the pristine blue waters, swinging on the rope hanging from a tree jutting out over the water, and diving off the anchored dock off-shore. My brothers snorkeled and saw amazing sea life! The water was shallow for a good ways out, allowing my 4 year old and 22 month old to safely play on the shore.

We had Cokes (PNG made Coke is the BEST!) and lemon-lime bitters, burgers and chips (fries), pizza, and ice cream cones, all delicious. My dad and my husband were happy campers that Father's Day.

At the end of our day we rinsed off in the outdoor shower, strolled through the grounds back to our van, and watched the fruit bats flying overhead. It was one of those sweet, sun-drenched days that leave you deliciously tired and floppy relaxed.

What a beautiful place to spend the day even if you can't stay there!

Eleven perfect days. The perfect Manager and a 5 star chef in a 5 star resort. I enjoy an adventure when holidaying. This is the place to be if you want to swim with Nemo and his friends in pristine gentle waters surrounded by islands and mountains and friendly people. Kayaking in the lagoon or further afield is your choice. Boat trip to the Madang local Chinese Restaurant with the full moon spreading light like skipping stones over the Coral Sea. A sunrise at the top of the local mountain looking over the world followed by a well earned top class breakfast at the Resort's Coco's Restaurant afterwards. I visited this place alone which was perfect. A group of friends or a quiet honeymoon would be just as awesome. The Bridge Bar has a BBQ kitchen so a lazy day by the sandy beachette with a good book and friendly staff on 'your days off' from exploration of the majestic mystical PNG. You may even get the privilege to visit a nearby island where the children run free and the people subsist from the sea and this beautiful land. There is a world class Convention Centre on site that holds 450 people. A wedding took place while I was there. It's just the perfect venue for everything. The bride arrived by canoe. The bungalows are separated by coconut trees, banana plants and frangipani with rolling green lawn manicured and cared for by the friendly groundsmen. Anyone for golf? A nine hole pitch & putt meanders amongst the trees only 150m from the bar at any time. Nothing is too much trouble here. Shuttle bus service from and to Madang airport and into town if you want to see the food market - oh my God - the food market. Fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm to you. The Resort staff will organise a dive trip or fishing - you only need to ask. It's a day's travel from Brisbane Airport, but hey, it takes a day to travel to anywhere. A sensory overload to enjoy such beauty and wilderness in this interesting country. Don't miss it. There is no begging on streets or trinket hawkers to distract. How refreshing. Oh yes, for the fit fans, there is an aircon gym (near the bar). You could order a pizza, go do your thing in the gym then sit by the lagoon with a cold beer and pizza to die for. Life's a balance - right?

Room Tip: All rooms are air conditioned, have a bar fridge and a flat screen tellie. Most bungalows are separ...

Jais Aben Resort is in my opinion the best place in Madang for the perfect holiday feeling!
The only resort in Madang with a direct access to the beach. Superclean water with corals and beautiful colored fishes, snorcheling is possible directly from the beach, total relax, a small but very nice hotel bar, good kitchen and the best staff and management I had in all PNG. While I had big problems with my tourguide from Mount Hagen Jais Abens management helped me with every issue.
I would reccomend the resort also for business purpose as they have a new very big and modern conference hall.

View were perfect & it was great to walk around the resort & just soak up the serenity. The bar was small but had great views & being able to go snorkeling out the front of the report anytime you want was an added bonus. Not to mention the quality of the snorkeling considering it was so close & accessible. The resort was very quiet when we were there so none of the water sports equipment was out, but the friendly staff were all to happy to get out the Kayaks when we asked. Going paddling was amazing, as on the other side of the river were locals going about their daily chores & we got some fantastic photo's up close.
The resort facilities are old but the facilities are clean & comfortable. Staff were very friendly & nothing was too much trouble for them. It's not with all the other resorts in town, but I'd much rather stay here & completely relax rater then be crammed in a high rise.

Tip: Take some lollies with you that you can hand out to the kids as you drive in. They absolutely love it & you genuinely make their day!
