Spent a week in May at the resort where we held the annual scientific meeting of our Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine group. I had a great room on the water, very well fitted out and the new restaurant upstairs is a great venue. Building work still going on in the entertainment area underneath and this will be a great asset when it is done.
The staff went to great lengths to make our stay as comfortable as possible, although there was some trouble getting the diving under way at the start of the week (we had 60 people in the water, so well beyond usual diver-load!). Conference facilities were fine as was the food. This was our second visit and we will certainly be back some day!

Room Tip: Go for the waterfront bungalows if you can - very nicely done and great views.

The hotel was very well maintained and the staff was very friendly. As mentioned in another review the rooms were a bit dated but still very comfortable. For PNG this hotel would rate in the 4's but on a global scale it isn't there yet. Even though the staff was very friendly they still were challenged being timely about meals and overall service.

Examples, we arrived on a Friday afternoon and went to the pool (very lovely) but no one was there to provide towels (they were in the laundry we were told and wouldn't be ready until the next day) or take a drink order. We did ask one staff for towels and she promised to go get them for us and then never returned.

Dinner on Sunday night was their BBQ and our order was misplaced and then I was told they had no more fish. Magically an hour and half later we received our meals, including my fish, and it was delicious.

Activity wise, there was a dive shop on the premise who were very accommodating and the snorkeling out around the islands was superb! Also you can arrange a private tour of the local villages which was also enjoyable and eye opening.

As for Madang town, didn't see anything worth touring and it was dirty.

PUT hand towels in the rooms!

Thanks for the review. It is always helpful to get honest reviews which help us improve services. We note comments related to pool towels, hand towels and delay in service in restaurant - all these matters are being attended to by our Management.
The person who wrote the review would have been aware of the construction work being undertaken to provide our guests with new restaurants and function rooms, this has caused some inconvenience to guests for which we apologise. We have also experienced two major lightning strikes which have cause significant damage to our telephone, Satellite TV and IT system which sadly will take some weeks before the damage can be repaired and in some cases replaced - this is apart of operating in a developing country.
The Madang Resort is dated, it dates back to German Colonial days, despite it being the oldest hotel in PNG, it rates as one of the best, it is maintained in top condition, it surprises me why a review would say it was dated when referring to the oldest hotel in PNG which in fact is one of traditional reasons why most people choose to stay in such a resort with such a great history.
Our rooms, facilities, services, gardens available activities remain the best available in PNG and most parts of the Pacific which is the reason why it is the most popular venue for conferences and tourists to enjoy PNG Hospitality.

More of a holiday camp than hotel as when I stayed with work colleagues we were all in separate types of room. Mine was fine if a little old-fashioned, the bathroom very dated like going back to the 70s. Good aspects, the grounds were immaculate, the pool is good and the trip to the village and the harbour trip excellent. Breakfast was good and plentiful, the staff helpful and pleasant. There was only one restaurant and bar, though another bar in the main building wasn't ever open during my 5 day stay. The food was average and expensive, the lack of choice soon became a problem too. I hated the caged animals and birds, let them go please. It really reminded me of a european resort in the 70s and needs updating but then again not sure why you would be there if not on business as there's not much to draw you to Madang.

Room Tip: Waterside rooms looked nice and great views.

Stayed in the Madang Resort for business on the 19th and 20th of March 2012. I have to say that I was impressed! There is some new building work going on under the awesome restaurant. Buts that a minor thing, because when its finished it will look great.

The rooms are comfortable, but more attention to detail and ensuring that the small things like missing shower glass are rectified prior to check ins. But these are small things. The staff are exceptionally friendly and are very willing to assist. One staff member has been working there since 1979!

The restaurant served great meals, and the service was faultless. Great view from the balcony overlooking the water. Ordered mackerel for dinner, only to see huge mackerel jumping out of the water in front of us! Must be fresh fish!

Would I stay there again??? Yes, most definitely. Well worth it.

Room Tip: Anything that the balcony opens up looking at the water is great. Take the time to have a good look...

Located by the ocean, the resort is actually 2 resorts in one (Kalibobo & Madang Resort).
We stayed in the Madang Resort side in a motel room that was spacious & clean by PNG standards & also included breakfast.
There is a main pool, bar & restaurant & it was very pleasant on the verandah around sunset overlooking the ocean.
The gardens are just lovely & you are able to enjoy wandering around the gardens in both resorts.
There is a local market within the grounds.

Thank you for taking itme to write a review - it is always helpful for us to see the hotel through the eyes of our valued guests. It is also important that our guests understand that for 12 months we ave been in construction mode and it has not always been easy to provide the level of service we would under normal circumstances. Hopefully the Haus Win project will be complete at the end of April.

I recently overnighted at the Madang Resort and would like to comment on the new Haus Kibung restaurant and in particular the meal which I had the pleasure of being served. I am employed by an airline and as such spend a lot of time overnighting and eating in the various establishments throughout PNG as well as our international destinations. For the most part they are all enjoyable and usually of good quality...however the Porterhouse steak I enjoyed while sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool was exceptional. The accompanying salad was crisp, fresh and succulent, served separately to keep it away from the mushroom sauce which covered the juicy, tender steak. All this combined with the great vista across the straits to the nearby islands made for a very enjoyable overnight...(which believe it or not these overnights can be very tedious as we never seem to be in one place long enough to enjoy it)

Just thought it was worth some feedback...I can assure you it's going to take a bit to beat that one!

For PNG an excellent hotel, well maintained, comfortable and clean. Staff all very polite and helpful. Was taken to and from aiport. Room was spacious enough. Food was good and chef able to deal with particular foibles with no problem. Owner clearly cares for the staff and wants to maintain top standards. Internet was down when I was there which was a pain but beyond the hotel's control.
