If you got time, you should visit this place as it's the biggest reservoir and supply to Paraguay. Check it out! :)

This is a very big dam, and is definitely worth a visit. I am not an engineer, and I am generally against anything that destroys the rainforest. But in this case even I can see that it may have been worth it. It is sustainable, meaning that it will not keep causing damage to the rainsforest. Also compared to the amount of energy it produces, they only had to cut down a small part of the rainforest surrounding it. In the introduction video they said that they collected the animals and found other habitats for them before building the dam, I am not quite sure how this is possible though.
To get here, go to the bus station and take a bus that says Hernanderias. Get off at the sign to Itaipu. On the way back to CDE, cross the road and wait until there is a bus. This is much cheaper than a taxi. The entrance is free, there is a 20min video then you get on the bus to see the dam from the outside. It is quite quick but you get to know what you need - unless you are particularly interested in dams. The guide spoke some English when asked to. Definitely go there while in CDE - but for me, it is not worth a major detour.

It was the first , but then, the chinese made a bigger recently... // The structure for turism is very good, with a/c buses taking you for a ride all over the plant. A brazilian pride.
