“Tra le più belle esperienze del perù”

I decided to come to Amazonia when I was in Cuzco, I couldn't believe it would have been such amazing experience!
the lodge is clean, good bathroom, perfect bedroom, no insects at all.
there is a soo sweet cat, 2 parrots, 2 monkeys and a boar living together and it is so funny to stay there. You can do canopy and zipline.
it's a silent place, far from human noisy, you feel deep in the nature and it is a wonderful sensation.
Lots of animals seen... caimans, monkeys, parrots, turtles...
very peaceful!

We recently took a 5d/4n tour with Carlos Expeditions in Puerto Maldonado, Peru and had a famously good time. We booked this tour through another operator in Cusco (BioAndean Expeditions). Upon our arrival at the airport we were picked up personally by Carlos, the owner, and taken to his tour shop, where we were oriented and soon put on the hour-long boat ride to his lodge.

LODGE
First off, the lodge itself was great. The rooms were spotless; the beds were comfortable and fitted with new looking mosquito nets. The bathroom was clean, and although there was no hot water, who needs hot water in the hot jungle? Electricity was turned on for 3 hours in the evening every evening. Conveniently in front of every room were comfy hammocks for lounging around during free time.

Meals were very good. Portions were generous and food was well-presented - there wasn't a single meal I didn't like. Large tables for dining facilitated meeting fellow lodge guests. Beers were available for a small charge and purified water was available all hours of the day.

Several rehabilitated animals call the lodge home, including two monkeys, two macaws, a parrot, a wild pig, and a cat. They were friendly and added to the experience of being in the jungle.

TOUR
This tour included a plethora of interesting activities. The first day, after arriving at the lodge, we went on a jungle walk to "Monkey Island," a place where rehabilitated monkeys swing around and arrive on cue when the guide offers them a bite to eat. We also went on a caiman search at night, where our guide caught (with his bare hands!) and told us about caimans!

The next day we had a personalized side trip where we traveled with the owner of the lodge (Carlos) to the Rio Tambopata, a 2 hour motorcycle journey from Puerto Maldonado. We had the privilege of being one of the first groups to have this tour, and as a consequence got to hike through some fairly unspoilt jungle. We camped for the night at his brother's (also a tour operator) future lodge site/banana plantation, and woke early the next day to see a massive macaw/parrot clay lick. This is the part where we saw the most wildlife - scarlet macaws, blue and yellow macaws, blue headed and green parrots, capybaras, tapirs, and more. Later that day we returned the lodge for two more nights.

Other activities included canoeing on Lake Sandoval (an oxbow lake), a night hike, canopy walk, zip lining, and river kayaking. Through these activities we were lead by Victor, a very friendly tour guide, who really made the tours great.

MISC.
Overall, we got the impression that Carlos is a very honest, hard working tour guide genuinely interested in tourists having the best experience in the jungle possible. As of our visit he was building more rooms at his lodge, so clearly his customer service philosophy is working very well for him. For what we paid I feel we got terrific value - I highly recommend using his tour company / staying at his lodge.

There is many tourism offices in Puerto Maldonado. We decided to go with Carlos Expeditions, which turned to be very good choice. We got very good price for 3 nights jungle trip, very friendly and knowledgeable guide Roberto (honestly - he is fantastic), pick up and transport to the lodge, food and plenty of exciting activities. We got there by boat - about 1.30 from Puerto Maldonado.
There was a rescued piglet on board - it was amazing experience :) The hostel itself is close to the river - hence close to all activities, Monkey Island, Zip and Canopy Walks, fishing and canoeing. The walk to the Sandoval lake takes a bit of time, but is smoothly planned with watching birds and very interesting guides talks. Hostel is at the same time a WILD ANIMALS RESCUE CENTER - they have got monkeys, birds and pigs ( they let them off back to the jungle after they get well).
ROOMS are simple but clean - new mosquito nets above our beds, no holes, nets in the windows, no insects in our room. The toilet - with basic shower.
ELECTRICITY - 3 hours in the morning from 6 o'clock and 3 hours in the evening. No problem to charge everything you need.
KITCHEN AND SITTING AREA - a large hut with plenty of space. The food is very tasty - huge size portions! Cold beer from the fridge, soft drinks, water (reasonably priced as well).
ACTIVITIES: introductory walk in the jungle, nocturnal walk in the jungle, fishing, zip line, canopy walk, lake Sandoval, Monkey Island, swimming in the lake, canoeing, birds watching and playing with the monkeys :)
CARLOS EXPEDITIONS - the office located in Puerto Maldonado , easy to find, just off the mail plaza nearby the Burgos’s House restaurant ( which is very good btw). Carlos is very friendly and honest guy. Speaks v good English and is very helpful. He dd not try to just push and sell us his services. I can honestly recommend his services to anyone.
