“Mixed feelings about this hotel and also staying in Puno”
Reviewed 8 September 2011

I have got mixed feelings about my stay at Totorani Inn in Puno.

On the good side, the owners are very kind and they do everything to help you. Someone was waiting for me at the bus station as planned. They agreed to give me another room when I found out that the one initially planned was facing the street. Breakfast starts at 6:30, which is great when you need to catch an early boat to go to Taquile Island. And wifi works well, although they shut it down during the night so it is generally not available if you wake up early.

On the bad side, the location is not perfect. The hotel is located in the center, but a good 10-minute walk to the main street, where all restaurants are located. The room is very basic, and the bathroom kind of rundown.

Puno is not a pleasant city to live in. Totarani Inn is a cheap option but if I had to go back, I would probably choose a fancier place.

Otherwise I would definitely suggest to go to Copacabana, Bolivia, to visit Lago Titicaca and Isla des Sol instead of Puno.

Puno itself is not really a destination, just a starting point for the exploration of lake Titicaca and surroundings.
We needed a quiet room for two nights and Totorani delivered just that. The room was small, quiet with hot shower running at full stream.

Free pick up from the bus station, basic breakfast, tea/coffee all day and free internet is included in the price. Alberto, the owner, helped us to arrange a private transportation to Sillustani and gave us advice on how to visit Uros islands independently.
We felt very safe and taken care of, would stay there again.

I am so impressed by Alberto's service. Our bus was late for over an hour. But when we arrived, we saw Alberto was waiting for us. He arranged our tour to uro islands and bus tickets to Cusco with very good price. The price was even better than I got directly from the tour and bus companies. The room was clean and water was very hot with good water pressure when you took a shower. When we left, he took us to the bus station and got us on the right bus. He makes you feel that you are one of his friend. I had a great experience!

Alberto was very helpful, from the pick up at the airport, to arranging tours and calling for colectivos to Juliaca. The rooms are simple and clean, plus the breakfast the next morning included freshly squeezed o.j. and eggs. I did find that the room I was assigned had an overpowering smell of Febreeze (or whatever room freshener they use) and Alberto was very accommodating when I asked to move--even after taking a nap and a shower. It's close enough to Jiron Lima to walk in about 10 minutes. Inn also has a good internet connection and Skype.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without carpeting.

Out 2 nights stay was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is not a large hotel giving it a nice cosy feel. Our rooms were very clean, the water was hot and the internet provided worked very well. The hotel was quiet and was only a short walk to the main plaza. The price was very reasonable. I would definitely stay there again.

Marian and her mother make you feel like you are their personal guests. The hotel is on a busy street, but rooms are very quiet. Easy walk to the plaza and Lake Titicaca. We appreciated the free pick up at the bus station and free internet. Breakfast, with fabulous crusty rolls, was ready for us, even with a 6am departure.

We stayed in the Totorani in Puno in Oct 2010 and had the best experience of any hotel we stayed in in Peru. Mirian looked after our every need from collecting us by taxi from the bus station, arranging our tour of Lake Titicaca & going to the bus station to get us the best deal to Copacabana & La Paz. When we got back tired from our tour she sent out for pizza & drinks for us ! The hotel is small & intimate, very clean, & with a good breakfast. A big plus is the free internet. We were sorry we couldn't stay longer.
