“Nice hotel with amazing views from the lake”
Reviewed 8 May 2013

I stayed at this hotel for almost 3 weeks while in Puno for work. I travel frequently for work in South America, Africa and Asia and overall I think the hotel is good value for money. The rooms are nice and comfortable, the staff is super friendly, and the food at the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner is pretty good.

But by far the nicest feature of the hotel is the amazing view of the hotel and the nice garden outside the restaurant. I had been assigned a street view room but asked for a lake view room upon arrival and they changed it for me without a problem.

The staff was also very helpful in exchanging large amounts of US dollars into soles we needed for work at a decent exchange rate (not as good as in money exchange places in the city center, but not bad for a hotel). As most nice hotels in Puno, they also have an oxygen tank you can request free for 15 minute periods (which they'll take to your room which is nice because you can lie in your own bed watching TV rather than lying down at the infirmary), and which they usually let you have for a bit longer, maybe up to half an hour

The hotel is away from the city center, so you have to take taxi cabs called by the hotel (which will charge you 6 or 7 soles -US$2 or 3- for the 10 minute ride) to go to the Plaza de Armas and the restaurants in Jr. Lima.

One minor problem with the rooms is that walls are thin so if you have noisy neighbors it can be a little annoying. Since I was there for work, I was on a different schedule than most of the guests who were tourists, which I meant they would wake me up when they got ready for their early morning tours and I would keep them up when we would be discussing work late at night. Ah, and the train track is a few steps from the hotel, so if the guests don't wake you up, the train will around 6:30 am. Luckily, it only passes once in the morning.

Overall, the I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would go back there if I don't need to be closer to the city center.

The dining room overlooks a pretty garden area that overlooks the lake and the city. It is walking distance of the boats that take you to the famous floating islands. There are also several llamas on the grounds. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The luncheon soup was not good at all. If you stay here, a visit to the floating islands is a MUST. I have attached a couple pictures. Next to the Machu Picchu hike, this the second is popular sites on our Peru trip.

Love the location, very quiet and relaxing away from city center. Transportation is not an issue,a taxi ride from or to city center will cost 6-7 soles. Ideal location to see different color of sky when sun rise and sun set. Our room was facing the lake, I watched the sun set from window glass. The staff were very helpfull and friendly.

I have to say, its hard to find fault with the Hotel, the decor in the rooms is maybe a bit tired, but its stunning location and views of the lake make up for that, the food in the restuarant is good, and the waiting staff are excellent, the reception area is really nice with comfy sofas and log fires, the reception staff were...cool, but helpful. Drinks are very expensive, in fact so much so when you order a cocktail the Barman has to tell you the price....but the real thing that sticks in the throat is, bearing in mind that there are no nearby shops to buy decent priced water, the solitary bottle of Evian in the minibar priced at 18 Soles was just blatant profiteering, The bar didnt even sell Evian so you could replace it... disgraceful behaviour, most hotels we stayed in on our travels in Peru had complimentry water. We spent 4 nights here, if you have the time, visit the English Ship on the Jetty, they have restored it beatifully, well worth a visit.

I'm giving this a poor rating based on our overall experience and insight our guide gave us after we shared our feedback. In fairness, when traveling to places like Puno, one never knows what the other options are -- meaning is our experience at this hotel similar to what others may have at similarily priced hotels in the area. The good -- 1) views of the lake 2) the wild guinea pigs running on the propery. The not so good: 1) rooms (we were in two) were below average -- first room did not face the lake -- the view was a roof and the room was dirty. The second room faced the lake but was right next to the bar -- so it was noisy most of the evening. Bathrooms need some updating, floors were dirty. Food was not good. And the service was also not good. Location while beautiful is not near anything and as a result, you are a bit stuck. Having said all of the above, I will give a huge call out to the front desk service. My 9 year old daughter had a medical issue that required attention -- they summoned a pediatrician who arrived within 10 minutes. Doctor treated her incredibly well (ended up having to go to his clinic). Dr. Moray was amazing!!!! Our guide said he liked the hotel liberator in puno much better.

Room Tip: If you stay -- call ahead and request a lake view room away from the bar.

It's almost a year later but my memory is quite fresh about this hotel. We were on a trip in Peru when visited this hotel for two nights.

The location of the hotel is more than perfect, right beside the Lake Titicaca. The air is clean and - of course - cold.

The size of the double room is just fit for two people and for their baggage. The room and its bathroom are clean and well heated by the electronic heating device. We always used it. The breakfast is served in buffet style and the selection is good (based on two mornings). Breads are fresh, drinks are machine made. i think it's a usual level of quality of these kind of hotels.

If we returned to Puno we would definitely choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: Maybe one should try the rooms on the first floor, they might be a bit warmer and the view should be...

A pleasant if slightly bland hotel with comfortable modern rooms, a busy and friendly restaurant with surprisingly good food and great views across the lake. Has its own jetty for lake trips. Limited facilities and out of town so not somewhere for a long stay. By the way prices are all reasonable.
