“A nice hotel with guinea pigs and alpacas on-site :)”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

I knew going in that this was not going to be an extravagant hotel, but had heard that the kids would enjoy the guinea pigs (Cuey) running around outside and the alpacas, including a newborn when we were there.

Most of the front desk staff were very kind, especially when my daughter got ill. They sent oxygen to the room immediately and allowed us a late check-out with no hassle. They arranged our taxi when asked, explained the expected costs and went to buy stamps for us (I wish hotels would sell stamps on-site, but I haven't seen that in general).

I would say it was the staff that made the experience nice. The men who worked outside with the animals stopped their very labor-intensive work to assist us in petting the baby alpaca and getting our pictures.

There was a woman doing hand crafts near our room and her prices were A LOT lower than what I saw when we visited the Uros islands.

The restaurant staff (especially a tall young woman whose name I don't recall) were so friendly, even calling us when we nearly overslept and missed breakfast asking if we were coming or if we wanted breakfast taken to our room before it was put it away.

The housekeeper for our room came immediately when we wanted/needed something very early one morning and helped us happily.

It's a little old and not a luxury, or even a 4-star hotel perhaps, but we enjoyed our stay here because of the helpful and kind staff. Oh, and they lent us a new transformer so we could finally charge our electronic items. *NO pool if the kids are looking forward to swimming

Larry G hit the nail on the head! While this hotel claims to be four stars, I would compare it more to an American two star hotel. The room did not have free bottled water despite the fact that local water is not potable, there is no clock in the room, the TV appeared to be from 1990, and there is no elevator. The staff is nice but does not speak great English and again, many of their processes appeared to be straight from the 80s. From the bill processing with a typewriter to the antiquated copy machines that could not function long enough to make a photo copy of our passports, this place will provide a definite flash back.

The location is a bit outside of town. However, after seeing downtown Puno, this is probably a good thing. Just know that you will likely eat dinner at the hotel where the food is somewhat mediocre.

This hotel is average, trying to act like a luxury hotel. This trip has taken me to Lima, Agua Calientes and Yucay - this is the only hotel without complimentary bottled water in the room.

The showerhead is a $2.00 one which sprays all over the bathroom.

Dinner was OK, but the buffet breakfast is very average without any care put into the preparation. A couple of cereals, only regular milk, and the breads are plain.

The walls are very thin and dogs bark at night.

The hotel has a great view of the lake, and our rooms were lake facing. Wifi access is great and a stroll on the grounds is enjoyable, particularly to sit outside with a cocktail & just watch the lake. The rooms are of a reasonable standard as well as the bathroom. A nice touch is the mouth freshener in the bathrooms.
However I am not sure whether this hotel is worthy of its 4 star ratings. of all the 4 star hotels in Peru we stayed at, this one was probably the one that was not up to scratch.
For starters - No free bottled water in the rooms & only Evian imported water at exhorbitant prices available which we had no option but to buy.
We had to search for a barman everytime we wanted a drink.
The dinner was OK but pricey my son had a hamburger for S/.40 (about $14).
The one breakfast was an absolute disaster. At 07h00 there was no hot food in the baymaries. I asked the waiter 2 times for hot food. 15 minutes later I heard other people complaining & eventually one pan of watery scrambled eggs was brought out. I then heard other people complaining about the lack of bread - apparently it was finished. All this time I never came across a food & beverage manager - or some-one in control.
The hotel is a distance from the town - but it is not much of a loss since the town is not really worthy of a visit.
I am not sure what the other options are for staying in the city, but do your homework before booking.
I would hate to be in this hotel during the busy season.

Room Tip: Try to get a lake facing room, the other rooms face the car park.

Staff nice and competent. Great view of the lake with boat dock. Out lake tour was right out our door. Alpacas on property. Restaurant and bar are adequate but nicely positioned for the lake view.

Nice amenities in the room. Nice bathroom. Internet excellent.

Inviting.

This hotel was so wonderful! The staff, the view, the room - excellent! Omar was the best host. He picked us up at the airport, arranged our lake trip, and evacuated us safely after a labor strike was declared a day before our departure - driving us to airport at his own peril during the strike.

The hotel staff even assisted us in printing our boarding passes and navigating the airline's Spanish language website.

We would stay at this hotel again and recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: They are all good!

I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights as part of the Titan Footsteps of the Incas Tour. This was a good hotel in a great position on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The rooms were good but our bathroom was a bit cramped. The group check in was good with the usual free coca tea available. A couple of people did need to make use of the oxygen room but the rest of us were fine. The restaurant served very good food and had fantastic views across the lake and to the ship M/V Yavari. There were numerous guinea pigs running around outside along with Llamas grazing and much bird life. The only negative point we would make is that the hotel charged exorbitant prices for bottled water (not even free for cleaning your teeth), so make sure you have plenty of supplies before you arrive. We would stay here again.
