“Quiet spot in a great location”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We wanted a quiet hotel in a good location. That is what you get at the Libertador. It is need of refurbishment as it is dated, but everything is clean and the staff are very attentive and helpful. It is quite a distance from the town, but only a short taxi drive in and out. Taxis are plentiful and reasonable. We had heard lots of negative things about Puno but we didn't find it too bad. You are left alone, which after Cusco was a nice experience.

We stayed at this hotel while on a tour of South America. The hotel overlooks Lake Titicaca outside the city of Puno. It is comfortable but the rooms are dated in some respects. We had no complaints about the service. It feels more 4 star than 5 star but the best Puno has to offer and the location is perfect. We recommend the hotel if you are visiting the lake.

The best thing about this hotel is its location, right on the banks of Lake Titicaca. The restaurant is great and the bar area is good. The staff are all very friendly and professional.

The one let down for us was the room, we had two different rooms and both were a bit noisy and a bit dated which was a surprise considering it has a 5 star rating and price tag.. I would put it at a very good 3 star..

Great location let down by its rooms..

It is a decent property with good service. The restaurant is very good, with excellent service and very good food. The highlight is the location, though. It is located on a private island and all the rooms have a view to lago Titicaca, which is very beautiful. If you take a 5 minute hike up the hill right behind the hotel you will see the most stunning 360 degree view of the lake. Puno is not a beautiful city, so being on the island was an excellent option.

Room Tip: The ones with a view to Uros

we had booked this hotel and check in... unfortunetly there was a huge manifestation about the price of water being hiked up. we ended up leaving during the night fearing being stuck there and missing cusco/machu pichu.

Next day, we overheard that ppl were on fact stranded in Puno and someone had been killed in Juliaca!

Hotel room did have an awsome view of Lake Titicaca... wishes we had stayed the night!!

We spent two nights here while visiting the floating islands of the Uros people and Taquile island, and were quite happy with it overall. It's a wonderful setting, right on a peninsula in the lake, with an imposing, yet and attractive building that can be seen from all around Puno. The building is supposedly one of the older buildings in Puno, but if so, it's been quite well updated and maintained. The views over the lake in the morning as the sun rises are particularly nice.
It has a particularly nice restaurant for a hotel, which is a blessing in a place like Puno, where you may not really want to go out of the hotel to eat (not because the town is so bad; it's not, but because wandering around at 12,500 feet is just not that attractive an option. And, on the same note, it has good elevators, which means a lot more at this altitude than it does at sea level!

Room Tip: Lakeside views are the way to go.

We (My wife & I) arrived at dusk yesterday (07/15/2014) after having traveled by bus from Cusco. Most of the geography between the 2 cities is sparsely populated with people living in abject poverty. It was a crushing blow to arrive in Puno to such squalid conditions for it's inhabitant too. We took a taxi from the bus station to the hotel just as night had fallen. The route to the hotel had a seedy/spooky quality to it until we got to the guard shack at the base of the hotel's main driveway. The grounds of the hotel are clean & well lit. It looks inviting. Once we pulled up to the hotel's front door the lavish service began. The bellman absolutely refused to let me carry any of our bags into the building. The front desk was courteous & professional. The room is very nice & well appointed. The dining room & it's staff & menu are first rate. It is my favorite hotel in all of Peru so far, and this is our sixth one on this journey, with one to go. The staff has been eager to help us & have in fact been very helpful in helping us organize the logistics of the next leg of our journey, a flight back to Lima. It truly has been a pleasure to relax here & be pampered in a manner to which I have not become accustomed. The views overlooking Lake Titicaca are breathtaking to be sure. Because of the altitude it's hard to breathe here & it is located in the festering cesspool of Puno, but it is a great place to stay. I highly recommend it if one comes to see the lake.
