“Value for money, great service”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

This was one of the best hotels we stayed at in Peru. The staff spoke pretty good English and were very helpful, giving us great recommendations for restaurants and directions for banks, shops, etc.

We stayed here one night before and one night after an overnight trip to one of the Islands on Lake Titicaca. The hotel stored the majority of our luggage for us while we were on the lake and had our bags taken to our room when we returned. We were very impressed with both the rooms we were given.

The first night we arrived there was a carnival in the street not far from the hotel. We fell asleep to the sound of the music and dancing which was nice. Although we could still hear the carnival we were impressed at how much sound the windows blocked out. My partner is a light sleeper and she didn't have any issues with the noise.

Location is great. It is one block north of the Puno Cathedral and the Plaza de Armas, and one block west of the pedestrian mall containing great shops and restaurants.

Breakfast consisted of a good selection of breads and croissants, ham, cheese, condiments, fruits, cereals, tea and coffee, which was included in the nightly rate for the hotel. We had an early morning flight from Juliaca airport, and the shuttle picked us up before breakfast was due to be served. The staff arranged for breakfast to be ready just before we were due to depart to allow us to take breakfast with us when we left.

Overall we were very happy, and this proved to be one of the better hotels we stayed at in Peru.

This hotel is ideally located in the center of Puno where you can find bunch of attractions, restaurants and shops within 5 mis of walk. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The shower could have some more holder for shampoo bottles and stuff though. I had to put everything on the ground.

The breakfast is OK, not as good as what we've seen at other hotels in Cusco and Lima, but still has some hot options like scrambled eggs and sausage. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient. They made our room at least twice a day, and they even give two free bottles of water daily.

The only major downside is that when we stayed there, we could clearly hear some music from a club or bar around. I'm kind of resilient to moderate noise when sleeping but I imagine that's not the case for everyone. Bring some earplugs just in case.

Room Tip: Higher floors might reduce noise from clubs nearby.

Dear Henry H,

Thank you for your comment and for having stayed with us.

Due to our central location, the increment, in the center of the city of some clubs that exceed the allowable sound limits and the recommendation of our travelers, we have started to improve our soundproofing system in the back part of the hotel, which will be finished by the 10th of May.

Once again, thank you for your feedback, and we hope to have you again, very soon, at any of our hotels Tierra Viva , in Lima , Arequipa , Puno and Cusco.

I am writing this as I lay unable to sleep in my 4th room floor which is in direct earshot of a local disco that has been pounding its rythms deep into the Andean night. Endless. Persistent. If you need silence to sleep, choose another hotel. The rooms are clean, well apportioned and the staff is friendly and helpful. Perhaps the rooms on the front side of the building are not exposed to this racket, so those may we worth a try. For my next visit to Puno, I'll go to another hotel rather than risk another sleepless night here.

We arrived late at night on the 14 th and were checked in without a fuss and with hot coca tea. I fell sick immediately and the hotel staff were concerned and offered help. I couldn't take the planned titicaca tour, early in the morning. But by afternoon was better and the hotel staff, especially Ms.katy, was helpful, in helping me find my way to the lake and take a boat trip. By the time I had a late breakfast, my room was cleaned up and freshened. All the linen was replaced and the room smelled fresh and clean. The location is too good, 2 minutes walk from the plaza and the cathedral. And the entire restaurants, money changers etc are a stone's throw away.
The hotel staff helped us with umbrellas when it suddenly rained and offered me the use of microwave etc. the chef was very good and breakfast sumptuous. They packed breakfast as we had to leave by 6.30 AM.

Room Tip: Select a room on the fourth floor since they have the best vies.

I recently spent 5 weeks travelling through many beautiful places in Peru. (Feb, March 2014). As a mature female, (over 60 years plus) it is important to feel safe and comfortable in a country where the language is not English. The hotel was so conveniently located, many restaurants and activities close by. And Ingrid, who arranged 2 days of sightseeing visiting Uros, Tequille, Lake Titicarca and the traditional burial grounds.

Room Tip: It is a new hotel. All rooms seemed in good position.

We stayed 4 nights at the Tierra Viva during the Virgen de la Candelaria festival. The hotel is in a newer building only a block away from the Plaza de Armas and from many good restaurants on Lima Street. The hotel staff went out of their way to help us during our stay, arranging taxi rides and a tour for us to the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. They checked with us every day to make sure we were enjoying our stay in Puno. Oh, and the breakfast buffet was excellent!
