“Cold stay - friendly staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2010

We stayed four families with children between 7 and 13 years. Puno is cold and so is the hotel. Breakfast room and the room with PC for internet access is very cold.
Possible to have electrical heater in the room.
Rooms against west is warmer than the others.

Next time in Puno I would choose a better standard (warmer) hotel.

the day of arrival to the city of Puno, much fog, but safe journey from Cusco, had recommended titikaka hotel jewel in the guide at Machu Picchu, but the guide was lying to me because the hotel was very dirty and smelling bathroom never had a receiver, no one over the luggage, no internet no elevator, breakfast was very bad in the sixth floor, the facade is very old unpainted as seen in the photos, the price very expensive, not having hot water in the taps, the pictures offered at no wep, no afety box, not on site Laundry room, no post office, no bath tubs, heating is an extra payment, I pay for the husbands bed $ 25, that was expensive, the hotel will not be new, I do not recommend paying that rate, other travelers are recommending bed pay 10 dollars for married only by the type of service and infrastructure that provide there.and think the price dearly.

only slept one night, then we see another hotel Conde de Lemus, $ 25, Twin boxspring Bathrooms with hot water 24 hours, Breakfast Buffet, eco electric heating included in the room rate telephone, fast Internet service, Safe digital, bathrooms with tub and shower and elevator, the hotel have all they offer on the page. recommend not only recommend adventure travelers for travelers of well being to know of good hospitality.

the reservation by phone, and a young man named Haymes charge me in advance and the hotel was a bad experience, because everything sucks, old towels, bath blighted, broken showers, old mattresses and do not have staff, never via the owners, I gained internet use, the computer of this hotel is very old, paid $ 30 and then went out to find another hotel and found one with a lot more quality for the same cost.
but the thing is that the manager of that hotel breakfast charge me $ 5

Just got back from Peru. When in Puno, we decided to stay at Joya Del Titicaca. We got the tip from the Lonely Planet Peru (2007) book. The hotel was affordable and that was one of the attractions. We paid $25 a night for what is called a "matrimonial" or a queen sized bed in the off season. The hotel is a 6 story affair, like every other building around the center of Puno. The hotel is hard to find. There is a neon sign on the outside, but up very high and never lit up. The door to the hotel is down a shared foyer like hallway next to a "Botica" or drug store. Across the street is a popular cellphone store called "Claro" that has an easy to recognize red circle with white letters. That's what we used to verify our location.

The hotel itself was average for the price range. The rooms were generally tidy and there is hot water. However, the room we had was a little threadbare. The carpet was not really carpet but more of a dense, felt-like car upholstery. The towels, although clean, had seen too many washings and were worn. Like most ot the toilets we came across in Peru at this price range, the toilet seats are broken and not firmly attached to the bowl. They were still completely usuable, but you had to be careful when finishing up. Our room had a TV but it was small and the remote control was not offered, so everything was manual.

In the lobby, there is a shared computer to use the Internet, but that PC, like most PCs in Peru, has a few issues that make it painful to use. First, the machine is about 5 years old, running WIndows XP with a woefully small amount of RAM. That means it has to swap to virtual memory and that makes it very, very slow. Second, be careful. That machine is infected with numerous viruses. Internet use was free, and that was a plus.

Service wise, the older man, who I think is the owner, was most helpful. He was great. The rest of the staff were quite useless. What I mean is, they could never answer any questions, they always seemed confused, and you always left wondering if you got your point across. I should note that I speak fluent spanish, so it was not a language barrier issue.

They offered a fair breakfast (included in the price) on the 6th floor every morning, that offered views of the lake.

Overall, I would characterize this hotel as "on the fence". If they clean up a few things like the carpet and towels, and train the staff a little, they would be a great and affordable place to stay. Their location is great, just a few blocks from Calle Lima, where all the shops and restaurants are. If they do nothing and continue to let things slip, you might not want to stay here next year. If price is all you care about, then this place fits right in.

We found this hotel from Lonely Planet guide, which said many readers highly recommended this place. Maybe it was the altitude, but we were not impressed the least bit. The main entry is obscure, down a corridor behind some stores, providing a fun evening of "dude, where's our hotel?". The hotel is a bit old with a European-esque narrow bathroom; sitting on the toilet would entail propping your knees on the wall in front of you - or you can always sit side ways. Another interesting thing about the bathroom is the sink has no hot water. Breakfast is basic.

Upsides are free internet, friendly staff, and right around the corner from the pedestrian only streets of Cale Lima, and their Plaza de Armas.
