This hotel provides an unbeatable location, just a few steps off the main square.
The hotel itself is nice, fireplaces burning here and there in winter, a nice buffet breakfast, nicely decorated rooms and common areas. The free WiFi is so-so, but there are computers available on each floor, free of charge. The hotel appears as well managed and clean.

I would love to give this hotel a better rating as I really liked it and the location was so convenient but my brand new Target alarm clock was taken from the room. Looked at it upon leaving in the morning because I was running late and upon entering the room after it had been cleaned the first thing I noticed was that it was gone! Considered it had fallen off the nightstand but it was missing. So, if you stay here be sure to secure your belongs. Other than that, the hotel is a half block from the Plaza de Armas which is a pretty little park with some benches to take a rest outside on. Go through the park and you are at the only pedestrian street in the town. There are plenty of shops and restaurants here although it is not too long. The hotel was one of a kind; more of a boutique hotel. I did have trouble getting on to their wifi but if I sat near the room door in the hallway I had access to it. Not real convenient but better than none. Breakfast was good and a nice variety.

We got this hotel as part of a tour, not sure what it costs, probably $100 or so. We were surprised to find it full of artworks throughout hotel--hallways, stairwells and the rooms also. The rooms also contained dressers and clothes closets made of exquisite woods. Very nice touches. Nice bed, bathroom, and good breakfast too. Coca tea avail in lobby. Central location. If it's in your price range, check it out.

Room Tip: It is on a side street off main square, I think all the rooms are pretty quiet.

The location is good – close to the main square of Puno, where you can find the beautiful cathedral and lots of small shops – and most important ATMs!

The rooms are not bad either, except if you travel during the winter time. Our room was really cold and when we complained, they brought an extra electric radiator. This helped a bit to heat the room, but the bathroom was terribly cold. No wonder – not a single source of heat in there!
The restaurant is really elegant and the breakfast is nice. We also had dinner in there and unfortunately it did not turn out to be a success. Firstly – my husband ordered a filet steak medium and they brought a fully cooked steak covered by mushroom sauce, which he really dislikes and above all which was not mentioned in the menu. We made a note about that and the waiter just shook his arms.

The problems started the next morning – my husband got really severe stomach problems. He missed the tour we had organized for the next day and spent the whole day in pain. In the evening we decided to start an antibiotics treatment and he got instantly better after that. But when we went to make a complaint at the reception, they promised to check and get back. This never happened. Next morning, during the check-out we again told them about the “issue”. The receptionist had to call her boss, which asked her what we had and from what country we were (as if it mattered) – the statement being that because this did not occur before, it must be mountain sickness or he got it from somewhere else. This almost made me cry – firstly I have never heard that antibiotics can cure mountain sickness and secondly: we spent the previous day on the bus, with no meal until we reached Puno. After all the lady at the reception agreed to credit us for the steak. I found all of this really incredible – it seems to me that they thought we were just fooling them with a hope for a free dinner! This I find more insulting than anything else.

For that reason I will not stay there again nor recommend the hotel.

Especially chose the Royal Inn over lakeside hotels where we have previously stayed, due to its close location to the Plaza de Armas and the many restaurants and eateries so close by. The hotel satisfied all our needs albeit being stuck in somewhat of a timewarp of days gone by and a little dated. Could not fault the staff and as we had an early start, breakfast was ready and on time which is a big plus. Room was nice and warm and very comfortable. Would recommend to anybody visiting Puno as right in the heart of where it all happens.

Just a half-block from the main square, on a quiet side street. Clean comfortable room. Heat only seemed to work at night ..... carpeted room, marble bath. Small hotel with an impressive lobby open to all 4 floors. Wood - burning stove in the lobby was welcome on those chilly night. Oxygen available on request, coca tea in the lobby. Not much street noise (didn't open windows!) but not much sound-proofing through-out the rooms. Difficult to access the tub for a shower due to its height. Medium size restaurant with nice included breakfast buffet although not too much "American" fare - plenty of food. I was fine in Urumbamba and Cuzco but did suffer from altitude sickness at this height. There as part of a GROUP TOUR.

From the oxygen that was provided for travelers in need, to the beautiful lobby with a little fire place, to the very friendly desk clerks who put up with my attempts at Spanish. I would recommend this hotel to EVERYONE.
