Long ago in my misspent youth I stayed in hostels like this. Nice to see that although hippies and flower power and long hair and beards have receded into the distant past, there are still young travelers (without beards and long hair, but with smart phones and laptops) who are interested in other countries and cultures.

Our Melting Pot is a good place to stay if you are REALLY traveling on a tight budget. If you are like me, with a bit more money, then there are much better buys than this in Manila. As an extreme example, the Oasis Hotel in Paco Park is 1,500 pesos per night vs. 1,800 pesos at Our melting pot for a double with attached shower and toilet - and the Oasis has all the "mod cons" and a swimming pool. Plus a GREAT restaurant.

Our melting pot is a good place to stay is your budget is tight, if you actually want to tour in Manila (most unusually for a hotel in the Philippines, there are listed tours), and if you want to talk with other like minded folks about the joys/pitfalls of traveling in the Philippines.

Be warned, the hostel is hard to find and up four long flights of stairs covered with a FILTHY rug! As well, since the publication of Lonely Planet, the hostel has moved from a block away and it has no connection with the posh hotel with the pool and exercise room as described in that book.

Room Tip: Good contact and sightseeing starting point. If you want a private room, LOTS of better and cheaper...

We stayed at this hostel for two nights, we just completely entrust to our favorite website for hostels which it had very nice review. I took a taxi from the airport to get to the hostel a journey of about 25 minutes, it was difficult to find the right building, it is not widely known but it stands right along the main road.
Arrived early morning around 7am even though it was early but I was greeted by a member of the staff which allowed me to check in and he kindly let me have breakfast. Hostel clean, friendly hotel in a quiet area of Manila, around the hostel there are several restaurants and a large supermarket where you can do your own shopping and cook something at the hostel. Of course it is necessary to reach Intramuros for a visit and the best way to do that is take the bus at the nearest stop close to the petrol station which is located two blocks away on the left aprox 30 minutes ride to get there. All in all it was a wonderful experience here at OMP Hostel, I met many tourists from all over the world and I had the opportunity to talk to most of them. The only flaw is perhaps the bedrooms, I chose a mix dorm 6 beds, small room and very little space to allocate the suitcases, but each bed had its own tent to have a little 'privacy, comfortable beds.
I could recommend this cheap hostel.

Pros:
Breakfast provided
Bunks are sectioned off with a curtain for privacy
Easy to charge electronics
Nice bathrooms with hot showers.
Helpful sand friendly staff
Nice people staying there
Computers free to use
Free wifi
Beni's falafel nearby,

Cons:
Print out a map for your taxi driver if coming from the airport! It is in an obvious place but Manila is so big that they did not know how to find it easily.
Two floors up.

I stayed at OMP for three nights and then came back for another because I loved it! The location is great in the middle of makati city, everything you need from grocery stores to great restaurants and bars are right there! Also the place has great room and the best common area with a kitchen, couches, computers (and free wifi)- a great place to meet fellow backpackers! But the real reson I came back was the great staff and the great atmosphere they created! Always with a smile (a real one) and helping with everything(booking, advice for the trip etc..), and of course they provide a great old Manila tour with a great guide (boodi) for FREE! This was the perfect way to start my journey at the Philippines!
