“Still has the class... and merienda buffet!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

The Manla Pen despite its age has maintained its class. As seen from the outside, it projects class and style. It still has the five-star welcome as you enter the hotel. What I liked most of all during my recent visit was the merienda buffet. I'd really say it was merienda heaven! The ambiance was great. The food was simply mouth-watering especially for someone who has not been back in the Philippines for sometime. The live flute and guitar music made the entire merienda dining experience a really unforgettable one. I would really come back each time I would visit the Philippines.

Went to the Escolta for a buffet lunch. A bit pricey but worth it. Quality of food and variety was amazing. My favorite is the seared beef, fresh and melts in the mouth! Also have the option to go to Spices resto section for some nice Indian and Asian cuisine. Overall the food was excellent. Very nice ambience to dine as well. Didn't stay in this hotel but you can tell from the lobby that it is one of Manila's best.

In spite of a leaking tap and markings on the corners of the room carpet, I rate this hotel excellently for unparalleled service (the concierge actually offered to transfer us to another room but we just found it troublesome). Staff serve promptly, politely and sincerely-- consistently. The gym is well-equipped, personal trainers are helpful, facilities are outstanding (steam/sauna/waterfall shower). The bakery serves good chocolates and pastries (which go for half the price at 7:30pm). The buffet breakfast (that comes with room nights) at Escolta restaurant is hearty and offers a wide selection; a set breakfast at the Lobby Lounge can serve as an option (using the same buffet voucher). Location is perfect; just across Ayala Centre where we had dinners with friends on several nights; the Ayala Museum is but walking distance. When I reported asthma attack one morning, Concierge sent the hotel nurse with a nebulizer and a nebule straightaway. Mario of Escolta restaurant whipped two special brews of tea that comforted my sore throat effectively (Mario probably sets the gold standard of customer service in the planet!) The service level is truly amazing; we will definitely book the Peninsula again.

Room Tip: Book straightaway with the hotel; doing so allows discounts when using hotel restaurants.

Probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Everything from customer service to the room quality was 1st class. It is close to a large shopping mall if you need the urge to shop. But the hotel has everything so you don't have to go anywhere. The pool area is also excellent

I think by far this hotel has the best character in the heart of the city. All other hotels includeing shang rila looks like just a hotel anywhere. On the other hand, Manila Peninsula, gives you the feel that you are really in the Philippines with how it is decined and how ther services are given to you. The location is also one of the best! just cross to the other side and you the best park in manila to chill out (ayala triangles park). And then about 2 blocks you will fine salcedo village where a lot of good restos with great foods are found such us Gino's Pizza, Wild Flour, Toby's Estate Coffee etc etc

Everything here is awesome. I really enjoyed my weekend getaway. From the classic architectural design down to the facilities and room accommodation as well as the food. But what makes it even cooler - it's the pool! I can't help myself but to swim even if the rain is pouring and the wind is blowing. :)

Yeah, can't wait to be back here.

Stayed 3 nights. The hotel is Not Modern and requires renovation, however the service and the amenities are worth a 5 star experience. The breakfast and room service are Excellent.
