“Food Deprivation”

Close to the airport ok to catch a plane. My wife recieved one cold egg and one toast. When she tried to return for coffee and something else she was cutoff. If you want to eat a normal breakfast go somewhere else. Rate this hotel poor for the very very limited poor quality breakfast offered. The good thing is thet the rooftop mini pool is nice. The room was very small and noisy but the plumbing worked well enough.

I should have taken note of the previous comments regarding the no show at the airport. I told them. when I initially booked the room what flight we would be arriving on and then reconfirmed it 3 days before we went. Arrived in the aiport at 21.45, hung around until nearly 11pm. Nobody there. Ended up getting a taxi to a nearby hotel. Of course they took the one nights's payment out of our account. Makes me wonder how many other people end up doing the same thing because they are so tired after a long flight and the hotel still gets the payment. We did end up there to catch the LRT at one point , the traffic is terrible and the area is very seedy, watch your valuables.

First of all, this hotel is not recommended for customers who will arrive in private vehicles. The traffic was terrible! We wasted a lot of time (dinner time actually) just finding the correct route to their free (but very small) parking area. The lobby was dark and gloomy but the smiles from their guards compensated for it. It would be nice if the receptionists would be more generous with their welcome smiles too. The staff who carried our bags and accompanied us to our family room was polite and ready to serve. But to my horror, the room they reserved or us (we were 4 adults and 1 teen-ager) was small. The pictures in their website told a different story. There was a claustrophobic feel to it coz there were no windows. I was so worried there'd be a fire I kept checking and memorizing their limited escape route. I didn't sleep well because of that. We were also welcomed by the awful smell of the room! Well, at least hot water in the shower was working well and the pressure was strong. The room service was also fast.
The hotel was inexpensive. Very affordable. I thank them for that. But next time we'll go for a bit more expensive but safer hotel.

Room Tip: I did not get to see other rooms'

We stayed here for one night because our flight got in to Manila late. The free airport transfer did not pick us up even though they assured us that they were there. This meant getting a taxi for the first time ever in Philippines to our hotel late at night (not happy). The free breakfast they provided was..... a strange encounter. As we tried to work out the "buffet", we managed to get a little bit of rice and an egg. Coffee was surprisingly good. The room was interesting to say the least, but after a long flight we were able to sleep on the hard mattress and crackly sheets that were provided. There seemed to be a loud fan system somewhere close by. Complimentary toothbrush was a nice touch though.

We knew were going to arrive at the airport in Manila at a very late hour so we wanted an airport pickup and the Shogun thankfully provided us that at no extra charge.

We also wanted to be near the airport for an early afternoon domestic flight the next day, so the location of the Shogun was also good for that.

Being that our stay was brief, we wanted good basic clean and affordable accomodation and the Shogun definitly provided us that. Our room cost us a reasonable $40 a night, however, you can get comparable rooms in Vietnam/Cambodia for half the cost. Why is the Philipinnes more expensive?

The breakfast in the morning is small and crappy, but overall this place met our short term needs for close to airport proximity and other nearby choices (Kabayan review) aren't any better or are more expensive. The bed was reasonablly comfortable and the room pretty clean giving us an overall feeling of comfort and safety.

If we had another simuliar airport stopover, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Any long term stays would for sure see us looking elsewhere. This hotel offers average value for ones money, nothing more nothing less.Given the higher SE Asia prices that you get in the Phil's, you'd be hard pressed to do any better at $40 per night.

We booked for 4 nights but ended up checking out in the same morning we checked in. The hotel only agreed to refund us for 3 nights as we stayed in the room for a couple of hours after arriving before 7 am.

The free airport pick-up was not there at our terminal & we ended up arriving using other transport to the hotel, although the hotel claimed the hotel pick-up was there. At 6 AM in the morning, the arrival area of the airport was quiet & there was only 2 people holding signs & none bore my name. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised as our request email for pick-up was never replied to by the hotel.

Upon 1st arriving I was informed that our 'Premium' room consists of 2 single beds before giving us a Queen sized bed after I insisted on what we booked. Not fun to have to argue after a red-eye flight.

After entering the room, we discovered the mattress thickness is only around 5 cm & the pictures do not show the thickness of the beds as the mattresses are covered by bed sheet; however, the bed frames' thickness suggests the mattresses are inserted into the frame, which was the case. Unfortunately, the mattress only goes in about 1-2 cm into the frame. The frame is also falling apart in some areas.

This hotel is not as advertised and 1 of the main reasons we stayed in the room for a couple of hours was that we had to wait for a decision maker to arrive, even after having spoken with the marketing staff & on-duty supervisor; apparently, only a marketing executive can make the decision. After the marketing executive visited our room & some discussions, I was told the hotel will make an exception & refund 3 nights. I also had to follow-up with Agoda to ensure this happened.

On a more positive note, the internet connection was good (although an IT technician had to be called to assist) & allowed us to book a different hotel while waiting for the marketing executive to arrive. The staffs were also friendly & helpful as they got us into the room way before the official check-in time & got my internet connection working on my laptop; the hotel & rooms were clean.

The hotel is located in a busy alley in a seedier side of town but the surrounding streets are alive in the morning so I can imagine it's probably also busy at night with activities.
