The place of the 1730 Jesuit House is owned privately and very difficult to be found as you first have to enter a place that looks like a storage house before reaching the old 1730 Jesuit house. After paying the entrance fee a guide showed me through the house giving me good explanations and helpful answers.

I read about this on Trip Advisor before visiting. I paid for a tour of all historic sites yesterday but this one was not included: this is a shame as it is more interesting and better displayed than many other places.
The entrance is indeed a warehouse, but inside the owner, Jimmy, is reconstructing an entire street as it would have been during the 1700s in the Chinese quarter. Materials used are as close as possible to those of the period, even the screens are being made using the mother of pearl shell. A lot of effort and research has gone into this project, I was privileged to have the owner give me a personal tour, he effuses enthusiasm and a love for what he is undertaking. There is a very eclectic collection of furniture and tools of the period throughout the house. Posters, photographs and illustrations are well-written and informative and cover both the general history of the island as well as of this building in particular. For those who love history and are interested in learning about Asian Architecture techniques, this is a must.

Visiting the old house is like time travelling back into old Cebu. There is an amazing miniature replica of the surrounding area.

Being inside a hardware warehouse, the house was well preserved but its also a little off to have a museum inside a functioning warehouse.

The curator has plans to eventually remove the warehouse so tourist can enjoy the visit more.

I enjoyed hearing the stories from the knowledgeable young lady who showed us around and told us the whole history of the place, all very interesting. I was impressed too by the effort gone into preserving and restoring the building and to present the displays in such a professional manner.
The building is privately owned and privately funded and the owner's passion for it shows through.
The place deserves to be high on your list of places to see in Cebu, especially as there are several other important attractions in the vicinity.

Don't be deceived by the looks of the entrance... You'd be surprised by what's inside. Other tours in Cebu should take some pointers from Jesuit's... Apple our wonderful tour guide n the owner of Jesuit puts in a lot of attention to exhibits and journey of the tour, very well maintained and informative. Best place to start if you want to know the history of Cebu.
