A large monument of the highlights of Cebu's history. Nicely done by a famous Cebuano artist / sculptor. Accessible by public transportation. A must see for first time visitors to the city.

Artist Eduardo Castrillo, designed and constructed this Monument . a Cebuano himself, you can feel his artistic passion and love for his province, when you visit this monument. This huge monument is made of cement, iron, and steel and was funded by private organizations and individuals. You can see the monument for free, but a personal donation will go a long way in maintaining the beauty of the monument.
Looking at the Monument you will see certain highlights in the history of the province. I am reminded of the Monument of Discoveries in Lisbon, Portugal with this historical landmark. This monument is located in Plaza Parian, Cebu in the middle of the city, and can be accessed easily by taxi, jeepney, or private vehicle. If you are after history, you should include this in your trip to Cebu.

Unfortunately is located in the middle of nowhere... well, near the Ya heritage house, which is fantastic!
But is great to see the history of the Philippines or in this case Cebu, represented in a very well executed monument.
It is small, it will take you 5 minutes to visit, but totally worth it.

Right outside the Yan San Diego House and so close to the 1730 Jesuit House too. Actually quite an interesting piece of modern sculpture but I felt some explanation of the phases as you walk around it would have been useful.

Although this monument celebrates Magellan, the great native warrior who killed Magellan--Lapu Lapu is also celebrated in a nice large statue. Although the monument was erected prior to Typhoon HYan and the earthquake that preceeded it, it made me think of the great persistence and courage of the Filipino people who are rebuilding their part of this country with cheer and dignity.
