How glad i was when the Café de Genève recently opened its doors: i'm always on the lookout for a truly original, independent place to eat quality food (and have a few drinks), far from the restaurant chains and dismal mall dining unfortunately rife in Cebu City. Hurry up and discover this little gem, whose owners and staff put as much care into their cooking as they do into making sure their guests have a great time.
A couple of Swiss classics are continuously on offer: you can't go wrong with a raclette or cheese fondue, both made with ingredients of the highest quality and origin, from the cold meats to the deliciously unctuous cheeses. This taken into account, the prices are actually very reasonable. If, like me, you find yourself becoming something of a regular, you will always find an interesting European delicacy up on the 'daily specials' board: boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin, pumpkin gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce (!!)... to name but a few of the ones i've enjoyed. In case you're a rice addict like most of us here in Cebu: YES it's available, and it's good too. Don't think twice about ordering one of the desserts: they're just as delicious as the rest.
The atmosphere at the Café de Genève is equally refreshing, be it for a family dinner, drinks with friends, or even a quick bite to eat for lunch in the middle of a busy day. The area is quiet, the aircon is cool, the tunes are good, and there's even a little table and stools to have a smoke or just a chat outside. I liked the special thought for kids (and us big kids too): the tablecloths are actually Manila paper, and there are little pots with pencils to draw on them.
One more thing: the coffee is EXQUISITE, and i'm pretty difficult to please when it comes to my espresso. Make sure you try one to round off your meal;)
