Having stayed in a Shangri-La (Penang) previously we had high expectations and most of these were met during our six night stay.

The main purpose was to attend a friends wedding reception and the hotel certainly know how to host such an event (there were three on the same day) which went without a hitch.

Our deluxe room, in the main wing, was perfect for the three of us since it had a proper single bed that folded against the wall rather than a fold-away bed that is often the norm. The main bed must have been super-super-king size and was extremely comfortable.
Any minor housekeeping issues were dealt with promptly and the room was always spotlessly clean.

We did not dine in all of the restaurants but of those that we did we especially liked the Chinese, Tea of Spring. A special mention also for the poolside 'snacks' from Acqua which certainly sustained us until dinnertime.

Other than the pools we did not use any of the leisure facilities on offer.

As had been mentioned many times, the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful and are a credit to the Shangri-La and The Philippines.

As expected in a 5-star resort, prices are quite high although I really do object to paying three times times more than I would in a pharmacy for a small bottle of sun-cream.
A bottle of local beer costs about 200 pesos whereas outside it costs between 50 and 75. I say 'about' because all the prices in the hotel are nett of tax which adds around a further 25% to food and beverage bills.

The one downside is that the resort is a big fish in a small pond. There are very few bars/restaurants in Lapu-Lapu itself although we didn't explore the neighbouring hotels so there may be some variety to be had there. You would need to travel into Cebu City (around about a 45 minute taxi ride) for nightlife.

I stayed here knowing that I'd spend quite a bit in doing so. After the stay, I can honestly say that I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure that it's really worth it. I can't find a thing to complain about, I'd just say try getting a deal on the room if you can. If I'd had a cheaper room, I might not feel this way. Anyhow....very nice ... but very expensive. I think I'd rather be on a bigger, nicer beach that just staying at a hotel for this amount of money.

We were 3 Indian families and celebrated Christmas in Mactan Resort. We found the resort to be too relaxing and comfortable. The rooms were big and comfortable. The service also was good and staff well mannered and well behaved. The best part was the resort had Indian chef and we relished vegetarian Indian food. The food was better than what you can get in India. The beach was man made and made up of white sand. There were 2 pools, both of them very neat and clean.

The resort is expensive as all are but you move out and across the street you get enough food and beverages. The best part is that you will get lot of water games outside the resort (all in vicinity of 2 kms) and you can bargain for better prices. You have an actual submarine nearby which goes inside water to abt 40 mtrs.( Yellow Submarine) For those who like adventure, you have lot of things to do.

We stayed 3 nights in an amazing jacuzzi suite and had a wonderful time.
Breakfast was excellent with a huge choice. We dined at 3 different localtions for dinner and all were good. The most amazing thing about this resort is the team. The most excellent staff that can be found anywhere. Special shout out to the wonderful ladies at the club lounge - Thank you for your amazing and truly memorable service!

This resort is good for a couple of days as an escape from Manila or Hong Kong, or as a transitional place between destinations in southern Cebu, malapasqua or Bohol. I would not recommend it for longer then that for the following reasons:

1. Food and wait service are highly mediocre/borderline bad, which is unacceptable for the prices. Aside from the breakfast bar, which is good, the quality of food and service drops dramatically. And it is not easy to find many restaurants outside the resort due to a combination of the resort's location and its policy to discourage guests from taking local taxis, however they will happily arrange an expensive hotel car :-). We went to abaca restaurant -- which was excellent--every night after a couple to terrible meals at SL. You can take the resort golf cart to the resort entrance at the main road and hop in a taxi of jeepnie going towards your right-- they all know the local and it will cost 9 pesos per person. You need to reserve ahead.

2. Not much to do... After a day or two of exploring the beach and pools and other expensive activities ( $60 for a round of mini golf w the kids anyone?) , there is not much to do. All on campus activities are expensive-- about $10 USA per person per activity, like 1 hour snorkel on beach, 1 hour kids adventure zone, kids arts/crafts classes, mini golf. And except for a visit to mactan city, sights are really too far to enjoy in one day (Bohol, south Cebu , malapascua, etc). The beach at the resort is disappointing-- man made and very poor visibility even though it is a 'sanctuary'. Resort dive shop charges prices that are twice as much as other local dove shops... And the resort tour prices are much (3 times!) higher than what local travel agencies and car rentals charge. Best to plan 2-3 days at this resort, then move on to other destinations.

Otherwise, a highlight was the sunset bar on the beach! Cool vibes, sleek female DJ, enjoy happy hour while watching the sunset.
