“Kids loved the resort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2011

We stayed at the Quantum Villa which was a private area with its own pool. Our kids loved to wander around the place which offers gigantic swimming pools made to look like lagoons. There is a small area that offers access to the beach, but this does not seem to popular. For beach lovers, this is not the place to be, especially since it is quite expensive. But your kids will love the place.

On the downside, my husband and I were especially annoyed by the chaos and confusion that greeted us when we first arrived at the resort lobby. The lobby is so full of people, luggage, cars. The lobby does not offer a welcoming atmosphere to arriving guests.

It was the first time for my husband and I to visit Mactan Island so we thought an exotic resort like Plantation Bay had to be the place. We booked the Spa room and it definitely exceeded all our expectations. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and welcomed us with sea-shell leis and coconut juice in real fresh coconuts.! The restaurants had great menus to offer not to mention the other amenities like the spa, markets, gift-shops, salon, and water activities. Staying at the Mogambo Springs, we fully enjoyed the use of its 4 spas and the spa treatments. Talk to Colleen and her very professional staff at the MG and they will take excellent care of you.

Room Tip: Get a Mogambo Springs room!

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel for about 6 days. We initially were very interested in the pictures and videos people have posted. Despite all the bells and whistles a friend of ours told us that it was not a good place at all. I decided to see for myself (I booked the hotel) and try the place for myself. I found it lacking in oh so many ways. First of all, and most prominent of the problems, is the fact that this place is for people with big pockets because they're going to nickel and dime you for all you got. Even by American standards this place is too expensive for its quality. For example in order to go somewhere (mall, airport, sea port, tourist spots, etc.) you either have to wait for a taxi to get inside the resort (it is uncommon for them to be able to get in because its such a private place) or cough up 700 pesos which is roughly 15 dollars). For the airport they have a "free shuttle" that allows you to go to the airport, BUT (and this is the good part) the times in which they bring you there are ridiculous. They are about 5 hours before your departure time (FYI: it takes me only an hour to actually check in and wait in front of the terminal). They will charge your for all you got inside the hotel as well. A can of Sprite costs roughly $3.50. The food prices aren't all that bad generally but when I booked in Expedia there was NOT an option to get a free breakfast with the room. Therefore you either have to try to bring food to your room from outside (oh and get this they actually say that you're not supposed to bring food from outside but I suggest to do it anyway because hey you paid for the room) or cough up 12 bucks for a meal.

As for the room and room service, its below expectations. Because the place is fairly big, room service will take 30 minutes. This has happened throughout the 6 days of our stay and has maintained that time if not exceeded 30 minutes waiting time. You might be wondering, wow this guy ordered something big...no I did not. All I asked was extra coffee packets and some creamer. My girlfriend and I got a poolside room (cheapest in Expedia) and when we first went to the room that was given to us we were disappointed. It was not a pool but basically a giant bathtub outside (was only 3 feet deep and looked deserted). We requested we be moved to a different pool side room and we got a better room (trick is for YOU to pick the room not them). It was also just about 4 feet deep but it was better than a bathtub. One complaint I would like to bring to their attention is that the bottom of the pool makes your feet black. It's a bit hard to get it off the soles of your feet (the place we stayed in was in Windward Road).

During the time of our stay the Davis cup was the current event in the hotel. It was fairly interesting in that it was treated as if it was a festival of sorts so we got to see some of the tennis players. This, unfortunately, made several other amenities and services which I wanted to try (like archery) were closed. Not a biggie but it would be a good idea to figure out what events are going on while you're staying there. Oh one more thing, if you are Filipino ask for promotions and local rates. One disgruntled person told us the place hasn't changed one bit since 8 years ago and also she let us in a little secret: THE ROOM RATES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CHEAPER! According to her if you (or anyone you're with while you're in the hotel) and present evidence that you live in the Philippines they will let you stay in a room for about 7,000 pesos (roughly 150 dollars ta-da).

Lastly, don't be fooled with the prices for going to tourist spots. In my experience, my girlfriend and I wanted to go and visit Bohol (a local island that is a MUST see, used to underwater but has all sorts of really great wildlife and culture). When we asked the Transportation desk they told us they would charge us 5,500 pesos (about 125 dollars) PER HEAD! Basically if you're going with your family you are gonna be broke. What we did instead was took a trip by boat over there for 500 pesos per person and paid a taxi driver (which also is the tour guide, and yes can accommodate people that speak English) 3,000 for a group (not per head or per person) and 500 pesos back. basically we saved almost half the amount of what we could've paid the hotel for the tours (yes we also paid a little bit for the lunch in the floating restaurant but its not AS expensive as the hotel says it is plus we got souvenirs).

To sum it up, for all the hype it has it is either a somewhere I'd probably stay for a day but that's about it. Other places like Shangri-La have about similar prices but better quality rooms and service than this place.

We moved to the Plantation Bay having had a really bad experience at the dirty Hilton hotel in Cebu and sensed the difference the minute we entered the Reception area. It exuded peace and with a pianist playing beautifully and the friendly staff, we instantly knew we'd made the right decision to move there. Our room wasn't ready so we were upgraded to the next type suite which was a nice surprise. We were brought to our room and wow, it really was a huge suite beautifully furnished and decorated. The balcony was huge and housed a large table, chairs and two beds on it. This lead directly into one of their lagoons so we felt like we were in heaven for the 6 days we stayed there.

The staff were the friendliest I have met and provided a butler service where they looked after your every need. They have a no tip policy and we were sorry that we couldn't reward the excellent service we received. The resort had lots of activities to get involved in and held themed dinners where the entertainment was excellent.

All of the restaurants in the resort provided high quality food and there was something for everyone. They even have a restaurant that is open 24 hours a day. The spa there was the most relaxing place to hang out as it is Japanese themed with beautiful water features. You can also purchase additional packages and we organised the romantic night. We were brought to a secluded area overlooking the sea, had a beautiful meal while being serenaded by our own private singer. When we got back to our room, petals had been strewn everywhere, candles were lighting, the bath was filled and there was a bottle of champagne waiting. It was all personalised having liaised with the fab butler service.

This is a serious getaway for couples of families as it caters for both. You can be as secluded as you would like as they have 8 pools. They have 24 hour swimming also in the lagoons which is a fantastic experience. Check out the website for the activities as there are too many to mention. I know I probably sound like I work there but having just check out of the pathetic Hilton, we couldn't help being on a high with Plantation Bay.

A wonderful holiday and I would gladly go back to stay in Plantation Bay.

Don't see any particular reason to go stay here. Chalet style accommodation, very spread out, artificial pools, expensive food and drink, mosquitoes, if it rains its horrible getting around, far from the city, far from everywhere, old rooms which are quite basic, sad plumbing in the bathrooms, tiny safe-box, old towels.

On the plus side, you can do nothing here. Quite literally, you can choose to do nothing, and it's ideal for that. No beach to go to, nowhere near the city, pools that invite you once, having to get a buggy to go around, sand everywhere around the pools... you'll soon discover the virtues of staying in the room watching the tiny telly.

Redeemer was the firing range. Good selection of rifles and handguns - a bit expensive. But the guys on duty are just great. They give excellent advise, very safety conscious and thorough in the going through the routine before and after you've had your time firing off your gun. Must try.

My whole family found this hotel to be the loveliest they have ever stayed in. We stayed for a full week, which is probably about the longest amount of time we would recommend, as it is in quite a remote location, and the activities, shows and food at the hotel seem to repeat on a weekly basis.
The hotel is probably best appreciated by people who just want to relax in comfort, rather than do a lot of sightseeing. As the location is a bit out of the way, and renting a car costs a bit more money than it should, it can be hard to get away from the hotel. But the resort itself is so large and offers so many activities that we were quite happy to spend most of the week within the resort grounds! Staff were lovely - great service, and very good entertainment. There weren't a lot of guests at the hotel when we visited, but it didn't affect our enjoyment at all.
The strongest point of this hotel for us was the lagoon and pools. There are so many swimming pools that we could swim in a different one each day, and it's all beautifully landscaped. For water lovers, this place is a dream! It was also wonderful for small children.
We paid roughly $130 a night for a room that sleeps 8 - an incredibly reasonable price, and we plan to go back again as soon as we can.

We've stayed there just after Christmas for a romantic get away with my partner, his sister & her husband.

Pros:
-there are plenty of swimming pools to choose from, they have salt & fresh water pools so if you are not a big fan of chlorine you can dip yourself in their salt water pool...and it is authentic as the water comes from the ocean itself
-no tipping policy! we've actually tricked one of the waiters and left our change but he ended up running after us to give us back our change
-there are lots of activites to keep yourself busy, it will also be good for families with children
-the staffs are very friendly and it seems that they love their job, you'll always see a smile on their faces
-they have a new addition to the resort which is Mogambo Springs. The Spa package is inclusive of the accomodation, 1 hour aromatic massage & herbal bath. Use of the spa facilities is inclusive as well.
-they also offer complimentary airport transfers

Cons
-the location of the resort is far from Cebu CBD so dinning options is limited to the hotel
-the beach is not the best but the man made beach compensates for that =)

Will definitely be back whenever we get the chance to!
