“Plantation Bay Cebu Review”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

Spent 1 night here last weekend.

Pros: For a man made lagoon, pool - it is quite impressive. Food at Fiji is delicious, but can be expensive. Free shuttle to and from the airport. Easy hassle free check in and check out- they have separate counters for this. Service is good, every staff was courteous and attentive. Complimentary knick knacks like candies, chicharon, etc.. Other activities like gym, billiards, etc.. (I didn't inquire if its for free, since it was packed with people when we visited).

Cons: Check in is at 3pm and activities such as wall climb, archery are only till 5pm. Breakfast, slippers and kayaking does not come in for free, for 175 USD per night, I was hoping it would be inclusive. Quite far from outside world, so if you want to go out and eat out elsewhere can be a hassle. I was expecting for toothpaste and tooth brush but doesn't have any (perhaps you need to ask, luckily I brought one). Helmet used in wall climb smells stinky ( they need to clean it). Noisy neighbors (random bad luck being placed with them).

Suggestion: Move the check in earlier or extend the free activities time frame. I was hoping you will have a water dispenser per building. Note: you have a complimentary water 1 liter if I am not mistaken and you can ask for refill.

Dear dkq2005,

Thank you for the review. We're pleased that you found our lagoons and pools impressive and that you liked the food in Fiji Restaurant.

We have passed on to our staff your appreciation of our service and everyone was happy to hear your encouraging feedback.

We have taken note of your comment about the wall-climbing, and will discuss with our Recreation staff how we can offer longer hours. Whenever possible, of course, we try to release a room as soon as the guest arrives; but when the hotel is full, and the previous night's guests stay until 12 noon (as most do), we have to stick by the 3 PM "official" check-in time. Our apologies for any disappointment this might have occasioned.

Sincerely,
Nenette G. Castillon

We stayed in this resort Aug 4-7, 2013 for a family clan celebration. The resort is a nice place for a relaxing weekend hideaway. The plus side is there's so much activities going on that boredom is no excuse. For a fee, you can rent a bike or seguey; there's also water sports, archery, target practice with real guns, all under the watchful eyes of trainers. There's an unattended function room for children stuffed with toys; a small but well appointed gym next to a game room with billiard tables and shooting darts. A golf cart dressed up to look like a jeepney is the main transportation around the complex.

With all its facilities and amenities, the fact that this is a nice "man made" paradise says it all. It's got lots of pools, bungalows, private villas (where we stayed), even man made lakes. The only semblance of mother nature is a small stretch of beach. So if you're a nature tripper, this place will be a disappointment.

The bottom line, this is a quaint but well designed artificial, man made resort designed to copy nature's best.

We stayed here to celebrate my kid's birthday and everything was perfect up to the last detail.. We had a great time swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and strolling. Our room was posh and very comfortable.. The linens were carefully chosen to soothe, the bathroom space was huge even with the shower and bathtub in it. There were also a lot of nice restaurants to choose from, and some were even open for 24 hours. One time, we had a late night snack and we preferred specific foods and even if it wasn't in the menu, the chef prepared it exactly the way we wanted it, much to our delight! The spa was very relaxing with a lot of herbal pools to wade in and services that could ease all your stress away.. Food choices during breakfast can satisfy even the picky eater. You can have lunch by the beach, as the seafood restaurant offers a seaside view. And you can have a sumptous dinner buffet while watching the talented staff transform themselves into magicians, dancers, singers, etc. Everything exceeded our expectations. Our kids loved the musical show. Our buggy driver in the morning was one of the terrific dancers at night. That's multi-tasking! We will definitely go back there.. The staff were so nice.. And your kids get to enjoy saltwater within a safe distance from your room.. Overall ambiance was splendid!

Room Tip: all rooms are nice :)

On March 2-3, 2013 I took my kids to Cebu for a short get-away. Courtesy of my friends at “Plantation Bay” (Des and Geli), we stayed in the resort for the weekend. It was my second time to stay in Plantation Bay and the resort continuous to amaze me due to its picturesque ambiance.

We arrived early Saturday morning and we were picked up from the airport. Their very competent staffs will assist you as you exit the terminal. They have several fleet that will assist you and your family or if it will be your Company Outing, no worries; they have a bus to accommodate your group.

We arrived early in the resort, although we requested for an early check-in, our room is not ready yet so we were advised that we can use the facilities while waiting for our room. We left our luggage in their designated staff, and off we go to Explore Plantation Bay. We spend the morning taking pictures, the place is 360 degrees picture perfect. Pristine waters, lush greenery, wide array of food – they have 4 excellent restaurants, Kilimanjaro Kafé- international menus and local Cebuano dishes, Fiji- seafood and Asian specialties; Palermo- tapas and pastas, Savannah Grill- fast-food favorites such as your burgers and fries.

We had our lunch at Fiji and enjoyed our seafood platter, the rest of the day we spend enjoying the pools. Yes, they are surrounded by swimming pools. Take your pick! Fresh water pools or salt water pools. We managed to try all the pools except the Windward since it was under maintenance at that time. You should not miss the giant water slide!

My kids enjoyed the complementary bicycles around the resort. They never get tired of biking! I myself tried the Kalesa ride around the resort, it’s relaxing while enjoying the scenery. The resort had a lot of special lounges that you can just sit and relax , read book or just enjoy a quite moment.

They also have themed dinners with grand presentations nightly, each night have different theme. I particularly enjoyed the “Sahara Nights” with the belly dancing and more. Check the schedules during your stay and reserve early J.

They can also accommodate company outings; they have several function rooms that will suite your group requirement and don’t worry about the food – they have the best food choices and in large servings. Our groups is around 60 people, and we manage to arrange activities around the resort with the assistance of their very accommodating staffs.

Room Tip: ..get a room with direct lagoon access or a 2nd floor room and enjoy a relaxing time in the veranda...

Dear ElaineSenador,

We are glad that on your second visit, you found Plantation Bay as good as ever, and that it was such a pleasure for your entire family that you wrote about your memorable experience on a blog and recommended the resort to TripAdvisor readers.

May I just elaborate on your comment about having a worry-free company outing at the resort? With our award-winning restaurants, distinctive indoor and outdoor function venues, various leisure and teambuilding activities, and dedicated sales executives like Des and Geli, Plantation Bay is one of the very few resorts in the world where business and pleasure seamlessly meet.

Thanks for the kind sentiments.

The price is to much on everything. This resort used to be good and the service was good. I don't know what happen, you'll feel the stay is not worth it. The food selection is not much and the service is to slow. Not recommended for a family vacation.

Dear Roland G,

We regret to hear that you were unhappy with your stay because you found everything "expensive." Actually, most of our prices are comparable to or lower than most other international hotels in Mactan or Manila. This is true regardless of whether one is talking about the restaurant food, theme dinners, the spa, or aqua-sports and other activities.

You mentioned poor service but did not provide any details. Could I ask you to please write to me at gm@plantationbay.com, with more specific comments? This way I can identify the persons or at least the departments responsible, so that we can improve for future guests.

The food at the restaurants were delightful! I can't say enough good things about this resort and I can't wait to go back for my next holiday the next time I'm in the Philippines. Thank you to everyone at Plantation Bay for the wonderful experience.

my husband, son and i spent a day here. it was up to my expectations, the staff was very organized very helpful and simply great. do take care of them they could easily be your greatest asset. the room was clean, the bed and pillows extraordinarily comfortable(rare is the hotel that uses goose down) the pools were superb,my son enjoyed kayaking.but he wanted to go biking but to our disappointment no bikes for his age were available. he is nine yrs old..we enjoyed walking around the place.no dead ends, one place just melted into another so it was so easy to find your way around.i was going to give this place a perfect ten but then it was the food that spoiled it all, i found it way way way too expensive for something so very very ordinary. i can cook better than what they served.although they had a decent variety of cheeses but thats about it. desserts? forget them. sickly sweet, dry and again, ordinary. goldilocks bakeshop would have been a better alternative. perhaps management could improve greatly on the food. it was the only letdown.

Room Tip: avoid the ones with construction going on..

Dear Jenny R,

We searched high and low to find our Goose Down pillows and last year, upgraded to "pillow-top" mattresses. We're pleased that you recognized our efforts, and found them extraordinarily comfortable.

We appreciate your candid critique of our food, and will do our best to improve for your next visit.
