The Plantation Bay is very nice, cosy, idyllic, and highly commendable. All staff are very friendly and accommodating. They always have smiles offered to clients and their staff also provided a first class entertainment - dance. The place is really beautiful an the food is excellent. I would really love to go back to this place.

I had a wonderful stay at this resort.

It's truly a gem.

We enjoyed kayaking, archery, swimming, bicycling and exploring.

I booked directly through the hotel's website and had no issues. We also purchased the breakfast package which was a really good deal.

The pools were a wonderful temperature to swim in, and it really felt like paradise there.

My Filipino family members really enjoyed the "bistek" entree at Kilimanjaro. I loved the fresh mango shake.

Although it was summer there, the resort never felt overcrowded. It always felt as though we had our own private pool.

I was very impressed with the scale of the facilities.

Nothing bad to say, great family vacation.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite for 10 days between Easter and Labour day. Arriving at the airport we had already pre-booked the transfer and it was great to see a hotel rep waiting there as previously arranged. The transfer to the hotel was along some very bumpy roads and the traffic was pretty heavy but the car was worth the extra rather than trying to haggle with a taxi driver or squeezing into a minibus.

We were able to check in whilst in our room which again made things much more comfortable and the trainee (apologies, I forget her name) did a great job of explaining the facilities of the resort. The room was very spacious and had the added bonus of being able to walk out of the bedroom/lounge room straight into one of the saltwater lagoons.

Whilst I’m usually a little dubious of artificial pools rather than beaches this one was extremely well laid out and had plenty of different areas to seek shade and explore. Of particular note was the pool next to the breakfast area which had a couple of small waterslides for the kids and plenty of little jacuzzi style areas for the adults to relax in. The hotel also plays down the beach that they have citing it as small but we thought it was great - a little sheltered cove that had a couple of concrete jetties that were perfect for feeding fish from or snorkelling from. High tide first thing in the morning was great and there were at least half a dozen varieties of fish in large shoals.

For eating out we loved the Fiji restaurant - the sashimi and also the mixed seafood platters were really good and very reasonably priced. The service here was excellent, just the right amount of presence without bothering you.

The concept of the kids activities on orion beach was also really good and the variety offered something for everybody - we were particularly impressed with Eliz who helped our toddler to make a mini resort which she loved.

Now for the negatives - the management appear to take on board a lot of the commentary here so hopefully these will be resolved by the time you stay there:

Breakfast was pretty average, we’ve had buffets all over the world and this has to be in the bottom ten. The staff were very inconsistent with offering drinks and the food was very so-so, the french theme day was particularly bad and dinner style food was on offer rather than anything resembling a reasonable breakfast option.
Some of the activities on the calendar were cancelled with no prior notice. It’s all very well to say that a private event is being held in a location but not to move the activity elsewhere is pretty poor form. Our little one was looking forward to the movie on the beach and when we turned up the staff looked at each other and had to make a call to confirm it had actually been cancelled. The same for the crab racing - we turned up and were told there were no crabs….really on an island resort with a beach covered in them? I think it’s just laziness.
Newspaper deliveries were inconsistent with nothing being delivered at all. Same with the notes to update guests on private functions, we jumped a jeepney in the resort one night at 8pm and were given a note warning us of events that were being held that day from 4pm…
Overcrowding on the weekends. There were a large number of day-trippers during these times, the place was heaving and it was impossible to get a chair near the main freshwater pool. Maybe limit the number of people as someone else suggested.
Taxi ordering. Maybe it’s an issue in Cebu as a whole but surely there’s a way to arrange with a group of local taxi drivers to have someone available within 10 minutes. We were told just to wait until one might show up (waited an hour once with none showing) or use the ridiculously expensive hotel car.
The internet is really patchy. Yes, there’s great wifi across the resort with what appeared to be an access point in every single room but the external internet access kept dropping out and at times would not be able to access anything for days.

Overall we were really pleased with the holiday though and the resort is particularly great for families with young children.

Room Tip: Rooms next to the main saltwater pool near the reception are best (away from the noise)

Dear warrencammack,

When a guest stays 10 nights with us and submits a positive, detailed review like yours, we really appreciate it! Clearly, you and your family took the time to explore Plantation Bay thoroughly, and discover for yourself what makes it one of the world's most distinctive resorts.

We're glad that you liked your room and the resort’s layout. We have passed on to everyone your appreciation of our facilities and service and our staff, especially those you mentioned specifically, were inspired to do even better at upholding our standards.

We apologize that your otherwise great stay was tarnished when there were many day-trippers. Please note that we already set a limit on them and took measures to address your other candid comments, especially those about breakfast, activities, and Internet connectivity.

Thank you for the kind and helpful review.

Sincerely,

Stayed at mogambo spring. We were so relaxed. The station was for honeymooners and it perfectly fit to us since we are celebrating our wedding anniversary! We were massaged at the same station. Their hotspring was awesome. I was very relaxed and really wanted to go back. Hope to get discounted prices this time! ;)

We stayed in plantation bay for 4 nights and chose the resort as it appeared family friendly withg lots of activities.

It was just that ! From the way we were given a room while we awaited our family room through to the departure transfer everything was very good.

The sea water lagoon is great for the kids and the range of activities on offer from Archery to climbing walls and Kayks to Jet ski's and paddle boards meant everyone had an action packed few days.

We read mixed reports before the trip but the food offer was excellent for a family vacation. Staff throughout the trip were helpful and friendly and ensured we all had a great few days.

It is without question that Plantation Bay remains to be one of the most beautiful resorts in Cebu. I'm sure the staff works hard to keep the place as well-maintained as possible. Unfortunately, my friends and I might have gone on a particularly bad day, because the service wasn't as good as I had expected it to be. We stayed overnight on a Sunday and the place was packed. Too many day users, I believe. Maybe the management should consider a limit on the number of day users they can allow in per day. It really compromises the level of comfort and overall experience of guests who have checked in. We were checked-in SO late as well at 6 PM instead of 4 PM (which is already late per usual hotel standards to begin with).
Some of their activities like wall climbing were offered at certain, limited times only (I think between 1-4 PM). Given our delayed check-in and the strict check-out time at 12 PM the next day (room card would no longer work at 12 sharp, so room would literally be inaccessible), when were we supposed to avail of these activities? In the end, the only thing we were able to use were the bikes. At least the lagoons/pools were available 24/7.
We also noticed trash left near the pool by inconsiderate guests. I think better visibility of trash bins could help with this problem.
Our stay in Plantation Bay could have been better, but we had a good time nonetheless.

Room Tip: Windward Poolside rooms are good value for money!

Dear mkvacenas,

Thank you for your kind comments about Plantation Bay's exceptional visual appeal.

We are sorry that it took some time to check you in. It is unfortunate too that you were not able to try our various leisure activities and facilities. Please note that our key cards are programmed to work until 12 NN, which is our standard checkout time, but we can extend this upon guest's request, subject to room availability. Recreational facilities are also available even to guests who already checked out, and most find it convenient that we have changing facilities for them beside the Gameroom.

We appreciate your observations and suggestions and will do our best to improve for your next visit.
