“Beautiful island.”

Beautiful island. Went with my fiancee and her family. Had a blast. Clear blue water, white sand, market for food and drinks, and friendly people. Had the best time. Will return.

“Pretty awesome!!!!”
Reviewed 12 March 2013

We went here Feb 28,2013. The ocean is very pretty blue and white sand. I thought dirty and not really well because that's what they said to some of reviews i read. But it's a lie, the beach is clean, bathroom is clean, white sand and blue ocean just like you were in the swimming pool. The stuff is very friendly. And the driver and the owner of the boat who we ride on is very nice and friendly, there boat name Ness- Shielda Amit Ortiz and of course if you want somebody to watch for your car you can ask also and pay them for a cheap price.
My husband and my mother-inlaw so much amazed to the ocean if you will see it you will inlove on it and my stress went away for awhile. Call ness-Shielda Amit Ortiz and let them know you gonna come on that day and they will wait for you!

“Beautiful Island”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

For the banca ride it's P45/pp, minimum of 10. We had the intention of staying overnight so we rented a tent for P200, plus space rental P100. For cottage it's P500, plus P200 overnight. Banca operates at 7am to 5pm. Generator would be turned on at 6pm, if you want to take a bath it's P20, and P10 for restroom. We enjoyed the white sand, beach and scenery but was quite shocked as to find garbage piled up at the back. It's ideal to bring your own food. It's still worth a visit.

Other fees: Entrance fee: P20, Children P5, Table rental: P50, Chair P10, Umbrella P150, 1 Room P1500, Electricity P100.

“trip to canigao”
Reviewed 16 November 2012

The place is so wonderful. However when you observe their waste management, it's terrible! if they won't work on this, it will destroy the beautiful island of Canigao eventually. and if they could make better comfort rooms, it would be the best. i love their camp grounds though. and the sunset.

“Stunningly beautiful but some facilities need improving”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

I hired a sole use large banca for our group at a cost of P500 return: possibly when they saw a Caucasian face, the price rose from what I expected might be P300 return from Matalom to the island.

Boarding the banca involved travelling on a bamboo raft (a first for me) for 20 metres to the boat as it was relatively low tide. Boarding the banca was via a narrow gangplank but there was a crew of four so plenty of hands were able to assist.

The trip took 11 minutes in calm seas, though on the way back at 1400 the sea was a trifle choppier.

Initial;ly I thought of renting a nipa hut but the wind was a bit strong so we transferred to the side near the marine sanctuary. Admittance to the island was 60 pesos each: a table and three chairs under the shade of a pili nut tree cost 180 pesos. We were three or four metres if that from the stunning sandy waters.

I snorkelled but didn't go out far and hence saw few fish.

We went to the sari-sari stores and found a dampa whose proprietor steamed a huge amount of scallops (the smaller ones were best) for 100 pesos. One of my companions also tried three saang (sort of large seasnails) which he said were not as nice as the scallops: the three also cost 100 pesos. We gave the remaining delicious scallops to our boatmen on our return.

While one can buy biscuits and drinks on the island from the sari sari (small) stores, we instead went to stalls at Maasin City near Metro supermarket and bought a pineapple (cut on the spot) for 30 pesos and a kilo of mangoes for 60 pesos. We also bought snacks at the near new Metro supermarket.

Facilities on the island are run down (toilets especially): this needs a lot of attention.

However teh beach was clean apart from a few cigarette butts although I suspect rubbish disposal is a problem especially on weekends. However there were perhaps 10 other visitors on the weekday on which we went.

All in all this was a great way to spend two and a half hours but take 30 plus SPF sunblock, a hat and drinks. It was a far better experience than I expected sitting under the shade looking at great sand and water close by: the seas at teh marine sanctuary were calim. There are several operators at different Matalom departure points to take you to the island.
