“Monkeys are very friendly but the place needs improvement”

Calatrava Monkey Sanctuary
Reviewed 25 November 2013

We had our vacation in Negros Last November of 2013 and we decided to stop by and visit the monkey sanctuary since its on our way to our relatives' place. We need to ride a motor bike to get up to the mountain where the monkeys are located. We paid Php15 each for a ride. We bought bread for the monkeys before we went there because we heard that when you decided to visit there you should have something to eat for them. As soon as we got there, the monkeys saw us and climbed near us. I was so nervous because 10 of them came near me. Then we gave them the bread we had. To our surprise, they just tasted the bread (Pandesal) and threw it away. The caretaker said that the bread should be sweet. Although the don't like the bread, they didn't hurt us and they just kept playing and climbing the trees.

There are more than 60 monkeys in the sanctuary according to the caretaker. Although the place has been developed compared to our last visit there, still needs more improvement especially the road up to the mountain.

Date of experience: November 2013
