Hotel Les Creoles was our last night's stay on a wonderful trip to Reunion. In some ways it was a bit of a let-down. The room was comfortable and we slept well, but it had that 'ho-hum' feel of just another hotel/motel room that can be found in many parts of the world. It has a small out-door, covered restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. The hotel has arrangements with nearby restaurants for dinner; a courtesy bus is available to get there and back. After several nights of restaurant food, we chose instead to buy some things from a supermarket that's an easy walk from Les Creoles and make use of the room's kitchenette. The hotel is close to both a small shopping center and the beach. I found it okay for one night, but I would not want an extended stay at Les Creoles. The WiFi is free, but awkward to connect. The staff were very good.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a ground floor room.

We were initially disappointed that this hotel did not provide our group of 3 couples with adjoining rooms, having confirmed in writing that they would do so, well over 4 months ago. However, they did accomodate us on the ground floor , not far apart. The rooms are spacious, clean, and have comfortable queen beds. The two hot plates, microwave, fridge and basic utensils are very handy. We had to go through a large check list of items in the room, and identify those things which were missing on arrival( 11 in total!) This was a bit of a pain, but I understand this was to ensure fairness to ourselves and the owners. The pool is large and very pleasant. Staff were very helpful, and at least one each day could speak some English. Taxis are almost unknown, and buses infrequent, and it would have been great to have a car. We tried to hire a van for the six in our group, but it was impossible. Would advise prebooking. The front desk organised an incredible 4 WD day trip for us, and also a helicopter trip, as well as helping us with restaurant bookings. Although the hotel is not beachfront, it did not worry us, as we were happy with the pool, and have great beaches at home in Australia, anyway. The beach is protected by a reef, and is somewhat rocky. We mainly came to Reunion for the stunning mountainous scenery.
The village of St Gilles les Bains is a 10 minute walk away, with Casino, markets, supermarket, bakery etc., Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at
this hotel and would recommend it.

Location
Located in a quiet road opposite side of the beach. The beach is literally 5 minutes walk whilst the town of Saint Gilles Les Bains is around 15-20min walk- in the other direction is a small village/town of Ermitage in which has some cafe's shops and even a casino. The town of Saint Gilles has many bars and resturants, shops and even pharmacy – there is also water sport activities. I drove from the Saint Denis airport and it took around 1 hour but my flight landed very early. To get to the other end of the island is about 1.5 hours drive say to Saint Joseph. 2 hours to the famous Volcano.
Room
Room was larger than expected and very clean for a beach side hotel. It came with a mini kitchen- medium size fridge (but no mini bar), Electric Oven Microwave and sink as well as cooking utensils and cutlery- all quite nice and clean. The double bed was fairly comfortable and soft – it had simple bed side tables with small lamps, a telephone but no clock. A decent sized flat screen exists in which has French satellite TV but no English speaking channels. A desk also exists for working on computers. For storage there is a large wardrobe with a easy to use safe inside. The bathroom is quite spacious that has a shower and some simple amenities (only shower gel) but plenty of towels, hair dryer is also included. AC is in the room as a stand alone unit, it is slightly noisy but one gets used to it. The area though is very quiet at night and slept very well.
This particular room was on the ground floor and so has a nice small porch in front with sliding door windows that faces the swimming pool, a table with two chairs. Pleasant if you wish to sit outside and still have some privacy.
Facilities
There is a bar that also has breakfast facilities- though did not use these. The bar is quite nice close to end of swimming pool and lobby. The swimming pool is of decent size and clean and majority of hotel is around the pool. In the lobby area is a pool table, table tennis table and two cross trainer machines, with many seats in front of lobby. It looks very boutique design with huge lamps for the lights. It is also gated. Parking facilities are offered both secure (with fob) and unsecure. WIFI is available for free- register email and despite going down around midnight, it worked well and fast.
Staff
The staff are very nice at this hotel they are all friendly, helpful and plesant. Only a few speak English but you can get by- to be fair it is a french only destination. The manager in particular is very nice and he was able to recommend places to visit on the island. My flight was also late in the day that I checked out (check out is at 12) and they allowed me to the pool as well as use a shower with towel before I left at 6pm.
Overall very nice hotel and would defiantly stay here again if I came back. Reunion is an interesting place with much panoramic landscapes, mountains and volcanoes- at times felt like being in the French alps when you drive up the mountains with the Fern trees and towering green mountain tops The beaches are ok but only a few places you can swim in the sea (one being conveniently across from this hotel) this due to coral and so is not that deep. The island is renowned for many shark attacks so deeper water should be avoided. The beaches are adequate but not in comparison to the likes of nearby Mauritius.

We enjoyed a lovely 10 days at Les Creoles. Very nice setting, large room with kitchenette, large bathroom and good balcony. Excellent front desk service and friendliness to such a point that our colleagues at other hotels visited us in preference. Happy to go back anytime.

Room Tip: the ground floor rooms around the pool are quiet

This is a good value hotel built around a courtyard housing a massive pool. Our room was spacious, clean and modern, with a balcony overlooking the pool. The pool is lit and open in the evenings, which is a pleasant time for a swim. Free secure parking is provided. The hotel is not on the beach but fairly close and the hotel is well situated for st. Giles and l'hermitage, particularly if you have your own transport.

nice swimming pool
nice clean, new room, including a small kitchen corner
no view on ocean, only view towards same rooms all looking the swimming pool
rooms are built in nice 'creole' type small villas
nice check-in, good service
no restaurant, but a snack bar is available
good location of the hotel, near a small city centre of Ermitage
access to the beach is via a 5 to 8 mn walk
atmosphere of this hotel is like a club hotel, without the animations
secured private parking, however access is really complex (2 codes, 1 key button)
WIFI is difficult to get access (sms, code,...) for hotel customers (we needed to reconnect often)

The welcome was fulsome and in fluent English - always a help - and the reception were all delightful. The hotel is in a courtyard style, round the swimming pool, which we found very cosy, and the pool is an ample size for all. The rooms are simple, well designed and decorated, comfortable and the cooking facilities were quite adequate. The duplex arrangement with the children and grandchildren upstairs worked very well. The hotel is very convenient for the beach, about 200 yards away, and for shops - Hermitage 10 minutes and St Gilles 15 minutes (on foot). If you Google you'll see the main road not far away - didn't hear a thing! Having checked out the other hotels in the area, this is in a class of its own.

PS It would be nice to have a plumber on hand on Sundays, and to have accurate instructions on how to use the safe (but that really is nitpicking)

Room Tip: Blocks 4, 5 and 6 are West facing, so you have a shady breakfast and lunch, but sun full on for the...
