The Novotel Saint Gilles is located on the South West coast of Reunion. The hotel itself is a 15 minute walk from central Saint Gillies but there is still plenty of restaurants around the hotel. We accessed the hotel via car and free secure parking is provided. This resort is suffering from age but would have been a stunner in the 80's.

The staff at the hotel speak very limited english but their efforts to communicate were outstanding. Our room was the standard room with one double and one single bed. It was very basic and quite plain inside. The rooms are quite small and very dark. We had a small balcony with views of the pool and gardens. The bed was firm and pillows were ok. The bathroom was tiny but everything worked. Breakfast was included in our rate and was a buffet style, there was a nice selection of hot and cold choices.

There are heaps of activities available, tennis, bikes, table tennis, 3 swimming pools and the beach is located outside of the hotel grounds and across a small quiet road. The hotel bar serves reasonably priced drinks and light snacks.

There is a large supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel and and excellent little pizza shop near by. Just outside the hotel is a great little bar on the edge of the beach, an excellent place to watch the sun go down.

The Novotel is certainly no 5 star resort as found in nearby Mauritius but is an ok choice for a beach side break with family.

Stayed for 3 days at the end of a 2 week trip to the island. Secure parking and an easy check in, most of the main customer facing staff speak English. Room was cleaned daily and well appointed if maybe looking a bit tired in places (broken cupboard door handles, old grouting in bathroom) but nothing major. Breakfast was a great selection and no issues with birds, there are a few cats but these do not go near the buffet and will only pester you if encouraged.
Did not eat in the hotel in the evening as choice was poor or a buffet, plenty of nicer restaurants an easy walk away, and a great beach bar just out the back by the sea for evening drinks. Hotel provided loan of beach towels and snorkelling kit to enjoy the lagoon which was good. On the day of departure we were able to use a day room to shower and change in to allow us to stay on the beach in the afternoon befre our evening flight, which was great.

The hotel is very good value for money - an excellent 3 star choice. very nice pools - one of which is heated in winter - set in lovely huge gardens. The beach is just across a small road, and is sheltered by a reef. There is good snorkelling and the beach is relaxed and quiet. Staff are friendly and the rooms are nice. We had 2 extra beds in the room but still had enough space. Breakfast was good, we did not have dinner there as the restaurant was lacking a bit in atmosphere in the evening as it was low season (and there are great restaurants directly by the beach only a few minutes away). Overall, a very good 3 star in an excellent location.

Room Tip: ask for a garden side room, otherwise you will only have a view of the car park

mixed thoughts on my stay at novotel reunion at the time that i stayed they were french holidays and hotel was full of french people ...the location is beuatiful , set among the garden ..but not directly on the becah ( you do have hotels that are directly on the beach ) the rooms need to be updated .the quality of beds is very bad ..i am alergic to mites so i had to be on medicine non stop .the hotel has french flair...nevertheless i expected more from novotel reunion

Limited Internet access in rooms, problem when you travel for business.

Sleeping ok, breakfast and service ok. Location ok. Small bedrooms, only std rooms, no superior or muxury rooms. So no upgrade with aclub card.

Best regards
