It was quite a surprise to find a quite decent hotel in a fairly out-of-the-way Russian city like Kursk, located not far from the Ukrainian border and city of Kharkiv. The rooms were very spacious, the Internet worked very well and the restaurant was more than reasonable. A bar area was undergoing renovation (which I assume has been completed by now). The location as far as I could ascertain was quite reasonable, though Kursk is not a large city, certainly by Russian standards (400,000+). The front office staff spoke reasonable English - already an improvement over most Russia hotels. The only weird "Russian" thing was the TV in the bedroom: not only was it not a flat screen (if you're doing renovations, why not put in flat screen TV's?), but it sat on a dresser that faced away from the bed, i.e. there was no way to actually watch the TV unless you plopped a chair in front of it. Quite strange. Other than that, it was an excellent stay.
