“Not quite what i expected”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

Coming back to the Hotel, after a long day at the office, should be relaxing, like the Keycard was saying "Now relax"... Well not exactly.
Starting from the good parts, the rooms are very clean, and spacious. The location worked for me since the workplace was very close. And the breakfast was pretty good. Nice variety of hot and cold dishes. That's about it..
Walking distance from elevator was quite long for me, since the hotel is built mostly on length, not height.
Wifi works only on first floor, and there is "free" cable internet for everyone BUT it's 128kbps internet. I didn't care for it when checking in, but as soon as i logged in, i felt like going back to the medieval era. barely enough bandwidth to receive emails, forget about anything else. I don't remember any modern hotel that has this policy, either the internet is free, and rate is actually included in the room, or you can pay for it, but room rate is cheaper. I guess here the owners chose to get few more bucks.
One of the evenings I had the pleasure of dining in the hotels restaurant, the food is good, and the beer is better. At the end i ordered the check, but the waitress heard "more" (on the beer) and brought me another beer. i said i didn't order another beer, she said she is sorry, but she already brought it, and she can't pour it back. Then brought me the check with 2 beers. i don't know about you, but i don't think 10 bucks worth a pissed guest. Very poor service behavior.
And lastly, about 10 minutes before my checkout, one of the chair's legs broke. i cough myself before landing on any vital body parts, but it could end worst. i told about that when checking out and except some laughs and a promise to "fix the chair", no compensation was offered.
Bottom line, not so much relaxing experience. I think next time i would rather take the metro for half an hour and stay at a further hotel, then come back to this one.

This is not like your average Holiday Inn you will find elsewhere. It is much better, but when you consider the price you have to pay, you would expect a lot more. We stayed over the weekend when prices come down significantly, but still it was £150 per night for an on-line advance purchase reservation. All the staff we came across were friendly and helpful, although reception did let us down with the taxi we ordered to take us to the nearby train station, which meant us missing our train. Otherwise, I can only confirm the positive comments made by the other reviewers. I was also impressed by how quickly the reservations department came back to me with the necessary documents you need to get a visa.

Russia and Moscow has been handicapped in the past by the fact that it had very few reasonable hotels where to stay, other than the old Sovietic type hotels, with limited facilities, strangely configured rooms and no A/C for the summer.

The Holiday Inn Moscow-Simonovsky is your typical international hotel with facilities one would expect. It still has a Russian twist to it but generally a quiet, clean hotel. The restaurant was adequate and very convenient when I arrrived late.

It does however have a couple of negatives: Firstly the price, like all average to better class of hotels in Moscow, the cost is prohibitive. But in a city where there is limited choice it is a case that there is little alternative.

The other negative point is the decor and level of illumination in the room. I was upgraded to a very nice suite, very comfortable but I pratically had to find my way round by touch as there was a terrible level of illumination. Obviously Russian building regulations dictate that they cannot have ceiling lighting but the it really needed more in all rooms. It is a modern hotel but the style and fixtures in the bathroom seemed old fashioned and they should have put in a walk in shower.

I appreciate the latter points are my personal preference and, to be honest, it would not prevent me staying there again. One other point in its favour is it is conveniently located for the Metro system.

Located about 20 minutes away from downtown (Red Square) with the subway.

Clean and comfortable rooms (large rooms), but internet access (cable internet) is really slow. The only way to have wireless internet is by staying in the reception/restaurant/bar area on the main floor.

Fast room service delivery. However, the breakfast and lunch buffet is nothing special; choices are sparse. Food à la carte is pretty good but takes forever before it's brought to you.

Slowish service in a smallish restaurant - yes. Location - good.

Bad points: Only three english speaking TV channgels (2xnews, 1x sport). Expensive (almost 300€) and the best point! For an Excecutive room you get to pay a high premium and receive the use of a bathrobe, free water and two chocolate bars! WOW!

A proper internet connection would be the least to be expected in an executive room. Now you get the same 128kbps connection as everyone else and have to pay 20€/day to get 500kbps.

I have stayed at this hotel in February 2012 for three nights. The restaurant is ok altough the service is not very fast. Staff at reception was friendly with good english skills (which is not a given in Russia), rooms are spacious enough with foreign TV channels. Internet is free but VERY slow: impossible to talk over Skype, even the simplest download takes forever. The price was, at the time of my stay, outrageous: over 300 euro / night without breakfast ! I would not pay more than 100 USD for this type of accomodation.
