Hotels in Moscow are not cheap, so your choice of hotel will be governed by your budget. We paid approx £175 per night (in February) for bed & breakfast at the Garden Ring. Considering the quality of our bedroom and bathroom, the level of service, free use of the spa, etc, we thought this was good value for Moscow. I would not look to stay anywhere else on a return trip.

What I particularly liked:

Very large and comfortable bed (at least 6'), with crisp white linen, quality duvets and a pillow menu (a choice of around 5 different types of pillow, including goose down).

Superb bathroom with underfloor heating, heated & illuminated mirrors, power shower, washing line, bathrobes & slippers, loads of storage space, Russian style 'bidet' facility.

Very sound-proofed rooms.

Good lighting, including individual LED reading lights by each bed.

Decent flatscreen tv (inc international channels), generous bottles of mineral water replaced every day.

Breakfast is served over four hours, from 7-11am each day, in a very comfortable dining room. Free copies of the Moscow Times (English language daily) are available (interesting and informative reading).

The spa is easily accessible and free to use (pay extra for treatments). Just put on the bathrobe and slippers provided in your room and take the lift directly down to the spa. You will be given towels when you walk in. Free facilities include a sauna, aroma room, hammam, plunge pool and a variety of showers. You can return directly to your room in your bathrobe. Don't forget to pack a swimming costume. One note - the pool you see on the website, with fountains, etc, is kept COOL! Designed to jump into after a sauna - not really comfortable to swim in!

The location - down a little side street off Prospekt Mira. The setting does not look or feel like you are only a few metres away from one of the busiest roads in Moscow - this was a very pleasant surprise. Two Metro stations (Prospekt Mira and Sukharevskaya) are an easy 5 minute walk away. If you are arriving in Moscow on the aeroexpress from Domodedovo Airport - it is a direct Metro ride on line 5 (the brown line) from Pavelestkaya to Prospekt Mira, only 4 stops.

There is no need to feel you are far from the city centre staying in this hotel. The metro is so very efficient and easy to use (and cheap). When we arrived we each bought a card with 20 rides on it (which you use like an oyster card) - and we still had 3 rides left after using it to get everywhere for 4 days. Within a few stops you can be anywhere in the city. And we nejver once waited more than 2 minutes for a train, even late at night. The platforms and trains are wide, open and clean and fellow passengers respect one another. It is common practice for younger people to offer up their seats to older passengers.

A few helpful notes:

Breakfast is pretty good, but is the one aspect of the hotel I would rate at around 3 stars, rather than 5. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Porridge (although this was not refilled and went quite quickly). Alpen and dried fruits. Smoked salmon (quite thick and oily), herrings, melon and pineapple slices, various pastries and cakes. Small selection of hot food - I did later find out they will cook you eggs of any sort, if you ask. Coffee machine does not make good coffee.

A porter will take your luggage as soon as you arrive and take it up to your room when you have checked in. He brings it into your room and gives you a little tour of the room/facilities (in English).

The rooms are doubled glazed and the windows locked shot in winter. As a result the rooms are on the warm side. We turned the heating system off as soon as we arrived and left it off all the time. This made the room just about cool enough for sleeping comfortably. Keep the bathroom door shut - which keeps the bathroom super-warm, and stops it from heating up your bedroom.
If you ask them to come and unlock your window, they will do that - but they request that you do not leave the window open for more than a few minutes as it interferes with the heating system. We had ours unlocked and opened it from time to time to give a blast of cold air into the room.
I imagine in summer the air-conditioning could be set to keep the room cool. I don't think you would want to sleep with the window open as the traffic noise (which is completely silent with the window shut) is quite significant.
(I never travel without a small bedside fan, which I find indispensable in hotel rooms).

The staff - a lot of people talk about rude/unfriendly Russian staff. It is true that a few of them are not especially smiley (as you will find the world over), but I have to stay that the vast majority of people we came across in Russia, both in this hotel, and elsewhere, were polite, keen to please and often smiley too. It's important not to take too much notice of stereotypes!

We loved Moscow and we loved this hotel. If you want to read more - see my review of "Four Days in Moscow in February".

If you stayed in different Moscow hotels, you probably have noticed that generally professionalism is not very common among personnel, "friendly Russian service" is what I call it. You can face a lot of "attitude", I presume this is due to fact that Russians are extremely proud as a nation and many feel that "serving" is somehow damaging their egos (I wonder why are they going for this kind of jobs then?). And one of the reasons of booking into a more expensive Garden Ring Hotel I was hoping to avoid exactly that. Alas. Not impressed with stuff at all.

As for hotel itself - the rooms are very clean, there is a floor heating in the bathrooms (nice), beds are comfy, however the rooms are too hot (this would be the case in any building in Russia, they are serious about their heating!!) and the windows could not be opened (locked). So sleeping was quite a problem.

Didn't visit the spa, so can not comment on this.

All in all, if you are looking for the hotel in the area, Holiday Inn Suchevsky Val would be a better option, being a chain hotel, you can expect certain standards not been compromised regardless the local culture values. Better value too.

Despite travelling to Moscow a few times before, this was my first stay at the Garden Ring.
It's set back off the main road, so noise isn't an issue, although you'd be forgiven for missing the turning when driving!
Check in was quick and pleasant, the staff were all very helpful and spoke good English.

The room was a very good size, and didn't feel dated at all. Very comfortable, although I did struggle to turn the heating down as it was set VERY high upon my arrival. As it was -20C outside that was probably why!

The restaurant is quite small and cosy, and did get quite busy in the morning for breakfast. There were a lot of fellow single business travellers, so one table was often taken up by one person. The selection of food was very nice, with cooked items, fruit and cold meats etc

The evening menu is quite extensive, and although not terribly cheap, it's certainly good quality.

There is free WiFi throughout the hotel too.

Overall a very pleasant stay and a hotel I would look forward to staying in again.

Hotels in Moscow are very expensive but this one seems reasonably priced for the quality and comfort. It's about a 10 min walk to two different Metro stations (I find it odd that some people say here that it's a long way from a station!) and set back from the main road so very quiet. The rooms are very comfortable with a well stocked mini bar and free water. Breakfast was excellent with a selection of hot food as well as continental style breakfast (fresh fruit, meats, cheeses etc) also cereals and cakes. Plenty of choice. The staff were also very helpful and everyone I spoke to had a good level of English which was appreciated as I don't speak a word of Russian. Will definitely stay here again next time I'm here on business. My only complaint is that the rooms were incredibly hot (controlled centrally and set at 26C degrees!) even though it was not particularly cold outside. As you couldn't adjust the temperature, I had to ask them to unlock the window so I could open it to let the room cool down a little. It was too cold to leave window open while I slept so it was far too hot again when I awoke.

walking distance to lots of attractions, especially pleasent if you are a walking traveller. near to metro stations, cozy rooms, free wifi, abundant selection of breakfast menu. Nicely decorated rooms that you d like to stay longer in the room. Everything s functional in the hotel. Also has a sauna and pool facilities. Near to the shopping mall Tsvetnoy that you should visit to see new concepts, dine&wine in the open roof restaurant if weather s good. You should take a stroll to red square passing thru Tsvetnoy buolvar, enjoying small boutiques and restraurants, And even reach Tsum Shopping mall, another flagship of malls in Moscow.

This hotel is great. It's clean, in a good location quite central and the customer service is excellent. The rooms are spacious and have all you need whilst away for work or play. I think the value for money compared to other Moscow hotels is incredibly good, I would stay here again for sure.
Tonight I was so hungry (I am a really fussy eater) I just wanted a plain take-out pizza and fries and they ordered it for me at reception with no problem at all - That is what I call service. Reception speak great English.
Do note though, if you need to take a cab, you will pay more if the hotel order it for you. Cigarrettes behind the bar are more expensive than local shops - but I would expect that in any hotel.

Room Tip: The traffic on the way to Prospect Mira (the road where the hotel is) is normally jam packed with tr...

Since 2010 I stay in this hotel only during my Moscow trips (business and vocation). Excellent location, very skilled staff, comfortable rooms, convenient pool and three kinds of sauna. Buffet breakfast is included in room rate. If you stay more than three nights you have discount.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.
