“Nuclear Inderground Bunker”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2010

Up until 1986 this was one of the most secret locations in Russia !
Built in the 1950s when the Cold War was at its height, the facility was built below a residential street so that it housed the thousands of personnel to guard and operate the facility.
When I went i had an individual guided tour that started by walking down 20 flights of steps into a maze of tunnels that is built in places like the London Underground but on a massive scale.
Original signage gives a feel of authenticity.
A video presentation gives the history of nuclear weapons and is in itself fascinating.
Viewing the Cold War from a Russian perspective is different.
This tour has to be unique and for that reason alone it is worth seeking out this attraction.
