Recently spent two nights in Moscow on my own dime ahead of a business trip and wanted something relatively inexpensive but centrally located. This can be a challenge in Moscow, and having lived there a few years ago for several months, I was aware that prices for centrally-located hotels are often astronomical. Based on the strength of TripAdvisor reviews, I booked a separate room at Hostel Dom, and certainly wasn't disappointed.
The hostel itself is spotlessly clean, with a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere inside. Free breakfast (bread, jams, cereal) is provided, the bedding was more than sufficient, and unlike many other hostels I've stayed in, I had no problems with either the water pressure or temperature in the showers. Staff are friendly, if not overly exuberant, although since I speak Russian and know Moscow pretty well, I didn't have to interact with them in English or ask about where to go/what to do/etc.
I'd say the hostel's biggest selling point, though, is its location. It's five minutes away from a metro station (Kurskaya, which conveniently provides access to three metro lines, including the dark blue and circle lines, which means getting here from any of Moscow's three airports is much more convenient), and just a few steps from a busy street with a shopping mall. A word of caution for English-speaking guests - it's hard to find this hostel with the directions they provide, as it's set back quite a bit from the street, and the English-language directions weren't very helpful (the Russian directions, on the other hand, got me there right away). But even if it means that it takes you a little longer to actually get there, the frustration is well worth it, and the seclusion from the road is actually a good thing, considering how busy, loud, and polluted Moscow's main streets are. If you're arriving on foot from the metro, consider arriving during daylight hours - the small street that leads past yards and parking lots to the hostel isn't well lit.
Overall, a very clean, efficient hostel in a great location at a decent price - can't ask for much more than that.
