Overall good hotel, however with some disadvantages. English at the desk was poor, paying quite an effort. However, in general the facilities are good, the bar and the restaurant serve o.k. and for a fair price.

Stayed here for 2 weeks on business trip due to first choice hotel being fully booked. Location was only concern but actually it has been ok with average commute times of one hour which in moscow is pretty good in my experience.

The rooms are a good size and they are quite clean. I was impressed by the lack of noise from adjoing rooms which is sometimes an issue in moscow. Very quiet even when the hotel was at full occupancy during a midweek exhibition/convention. Minibar is stocked daily, towels replaced an bedding also replaced regularly. Every room has a balcony but not a lot of good in February when there's 3 ft off snow on it!!

The bar/restaurant area is spacious enough. The menu is quite varied, russian/european and is normal moscow prices (~1500rb for two courses+drink). The staff are very helpful and can speak good english.
Only downside is bar has no real no smoking area but hopefully this will change soon.

Travelled into Central moscow on weekend and taxi was 900rb and only took 25mins.

There is gym and pool facilities which I havent used but will during my next stay.

Overall a pleasant stay and will be coming back again next week!

The Iris Hotel is a good hotel for accommodation, but is unfortunately poor in its links with the city of Moscow. Our trip from Moscow airport to the hotel took three hours (covering approx 40 km). Moscow traffic is worse than brutal on a Monday to Friday basis. The hotel would be fine for a weekend stay, as Saturday and Sunday traffic was much lighter. We tried metro, and managed quite well (if one is prepared to accpt the crowd and no english place names), but then had to link with a bus for transfer to the hotel. I would only consider the hotel again for a weekend visit

Room Tip: We stayed on the 7th floor and were completely comfortable

Hotels in Moscow are insanely expensive, which is the main reason for choosing this hotel. The traffic situation is also something you really need to consider. Moscow traffic is among the worst in the world. If this hotel is near your destination, it is a fair option.

I have stayed in two other hotels in Moscow, none of them luxury (Aerostar and Cosmos Gagarin), and the Iris is by far the best.

Tip 1: Ask, and pay, for internet access when you check in. It is 350 Rubles per day.
Tip 1,5: There is free internet connection in the Lobby

Tip 2: Ask for a non smoking room!!!

The rooms are fairly clean. The bathroom is big and clean. Showers are crap, but better than many others in Russia. Of course you don't drink the water on the tap, and personally I don't brush my teeth in it either. No free water is supplied, but there are two large bottles in the minibar.

Tip 3: If you are the type who like to sample a couple of beers or some snack in the room, bring some with you. The private bar is not very well stocked, apart from strong alcohol.

Service is Russia-style, and quite ok. Not 5 star, or even 3 or 4-star compared to western standard. But they fix what you need. I kind of like it.

The restaurant downstairs is actually ok too. This is my third stay and I have eaten there a couple of times. Not high class, but again... Quite alright. It might seem that I don't like Russia, but I really do. Especially I like the Russian people. But for a hotel review I want to inform people what they are actually getting. Flat out.

So to sum it up, it is a clean hotel. Nothing more, nothing less. Only downside is that the whole place smells pretty old. But I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for non smoking room

The receptionist who deals with customer can just completely ignore your request and play with you. It is ok to be treated like that at government in Russia, but not a far star hotel. I called and on one picked up the phone, neither they called back. So I had to go down to the reception to get internet services. I had been asking to get a voucher ( I paid for) for internet connection for 45 minutes when the receptionist, without even looking at me, told me that I should stay at the other side of counter and that is where the queue is. Well he could have told me 45 minutes before ...

Very bad service! I will not recommend ...

Definitely not for tourists since it's quite far away from the first ring. Always ask for a non-smoking room unless you want to inhale the cleaning spray all night long
