As the renovation of the floors is in progress, some of the rooms are ok, some are old and mouldy, though all of them still have a nostalgic soviet touch about them.
It's ok, if your company pays for the stay.
The breakfast is pretty good though. Just didnt like the tea very much.
Russian have a very special way about everything to do with service, so dont get put off by a slightly arrogant appoach to things. It's nothing personal.
Very peculiar is the "check-point" at the entrance. You might feel like you're entering a top secret facility.

The hotel has 5 stars on the exterior wall, but it doesn't deserve more than 3. Rooms equipped with carpets and furniture which look like they remember the '70s. Our room had no view to write home about; apparently the river side is much better. Nice rich varied breakfast (you can get bored with salmon caviar after a few days), no peaks of culinary skill, though. You'll often find a black limo or two with a blue light on the roof parked outside, and there is security at the gate.

It is in no way the standard of a 5 star hotel, more like 3 or at a push 4 star. If a good situation, quiet comfortable bedroom with English speaking hotel staff is what you need then this fits the bill. It is in dire need of a revamp if it was to get close to the standard of a 4 or 5 star in Europe. For Moscow standards it is a good price arond €220-300.
Disappointing is the fact that the health spa/ amenities are not free nor are they cheap. The pool and gym which i could not see as it was all locked can be used by hotel guests for free in the mornings only with prior reservation with out reservation it is locked and un manned ! Not conducive to a relaxing work out.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet i was beside the elevator but it made no difference. Riverside rooms are the...

I was in Moscow from march 26-31, 2011. The hotel has a great location. You´re within walking distance to many important attractions, to name a few: monument of Peter the Great (5 mins), Christ the Savor Cathedral (10 mins), Tretyakov Gallery (10 mins), Kremlin/Red Square (25 mins), Arbat Street (30 mins). There´s also a metro station about 5 mins (Polyanka).
My room had enough size as it had a single bed. Furniture and decoration is very old-fashioned but room and bathroom were clean. I had a great view to Moskva River. You access internet in you room by cable. Wi-Fi only in the lobby. Room´s safe is really small, it doesn´t even fit a netbook.
Breakfast buffet was average. Reception staff was friendly. Managment had a nice touch, sent me a bottle of wine and a fruit plate on my birthday.

In serious need of renovation, looks international from outside - lots of flags, but inside it is still very old-fashioned, dare I say 'communist-era'!. Even a TWO STAR hotel in western europe has curtains which close! - after three requests - curtains are still open, so i expect to be woken when it becomes light. Typical of hotels in Moscow, which believe (and charge) as if they were something special - indeed they are far from it and need to get a grip on reality. They are simply not worth it, not good value for money and nowhere near western standards. Unfortunately, a 'cartel' seems to exist - and prices are ridiculously over-priced. I don't think there is anybody out there who is brave enough to run a reasonably-priced hotel with western european standards. I an not holding my breath for Moscow. Shame!

Perfect location.... but that's it if you don't have nostalgia for socialism times.
Security gate to get at the territory of the hotel, if you have driver to pick you up - forget it, he can't come to hotel door through this gate, unless explicit security procedure will be done. Much easier, just go out - it's only about 100 meters... not really far, even if it's moscow cold and heavy suitcases.

Rooms are very big, but all the furniture is quite old, same as bathroom. Therefore good food for breakfeast!

"Hotel President" - a relic of Soviet times: the dusty crystal chandeliers, wood paneling, cabinets that do not close, nasty green plumbing made in Yugoslavia in1983 when taking the hotel into operation. Аntique safe, a refrigerator, "Saratov", which is not working, smelly carpets, hair in a Greek salad, ordered in room service, spots on the carpet in the hallways, the inconvenience to enter the territory through the check-point with a tourniquet which does not go through with suitcase, book a taxi to the territory is not allowed, we have to go to Yakimanka street under the rain, a lot of somber security and persons of Caucasian nationality in the bar "Aurora" in the evenings. Benefits: center location, friendly girls on the reception desk, unobtrusive maids, clean and fast . Generally, the hotel came from USSR times.
