This was one of the few museums that had good quality English translation cards in each room. Very enjoyable

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2013

Lovely gallery, great cafe with lots of quick snacks.
Toilets as almost all public toilet in Russia although clean could do with a dousing in bleach or some other strong chemical.
Has a cloakroom for your coats, hats and any large holdall or bag.
The gallery is jam packed wit beautiful artwork and hundreds of Icons, really worth a visit.

“A window to classical Russian art”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 December 2013

It may not be the Hermitage as the Tretyakov was and is dedicated to Russian art and houses works of many artists totally unknown outside of Russia. Interesting to see the Russian psyche with the eyes of Russian artists. The icons in particular are worth a visit. The building itself is very interesting unlike its cousin next door that houses the Gallery of Modern Art.

“Huge gallery with interesting temporary exhibits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

We went there last weekend and were amazed. The museum is a bit hidden, at the side of a large event building opposite Gorky park. With the new board walk along the river, it is also quite fun to walk there from the city center, passing the small island with the Red October factory. The museum is huge, and has a large permanent collection but also interesting temporary exhibits. Lines tend to be huge on weekends, so prepare for a wait at the two ticket registers. We especially liked the Mondrian exhibit that was on when we got there.

“tetriakov art galery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2013

If you like fine art museums it is a must see. I score it in the same level of the best art museums , like the national gallery in London or Brera (Milan) or Ufisi (Florence) in Italy.
