I agree that this hotel does not feel 5-star, I agree that it's quirky, but I would stay there again (maybe try a bigger room next time). First of all, the location is its biggest and greatest advantage. Walking distance to all the greatest attractions, theaters, shopping streets, walking streets, the Red Square, the river... Very close to Metro stations. A few cafes and restaurants just a couple minutes away, and even more of them if you walk a bit further. A 24/7 grocery store, and a good one too. I wish the hotel staff would print out a little map of the hotel surroundings so you know what direction to walk to find all this stuff, took us about a week to figure it out, every day we'd find more and more reasons to love the location. They do have a nice map of Central Moscow at the reception counter, but it's all about advertised places, not focused on things near the hotel. The staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. They let us have bottled water for free at the bar when they saw that we had a little child and it was too late to go buy drinking water elsewhere (in Russia you don't want to drink tap water). They were always happy to answer questions, let the kid play in the big golden apple couch in the lobby, we are extremely happy with the people who work there. They always left chocolates on the pillow after cleaning the room, which also made the kid very happy. I loved the heated floor in the bathroom. It took us a while to figure out the climate control in the room, it worked well. The water pressure and temperature in the shower was easily controlled - and that is often a problem in Russian hotels, this one wasn't a disappointment when it came to shower business. The amenities included shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotions, shaving kit (only offered once though, not renewed after we used it) dental kit, shower cap, sewing kit, hair comb. There was also a simple bathrobe, a pair of slippers, an umbrella. The design is unusual, it's a boutique hotel, so expect something original. I would describe their original as a mix of yellow and dark-grey, with glass desks, dark curtains (loved the zippers on them, by the way). The window in our room was nice and big. The free wi-fi was described as low speed, but where I'm from it's a normal internet speed, so I was absolutely satisfied with the free wi-fi service.

Here are the cons:
The room was tiny, it's the tiniest hotel room I've ever seen. I'd definitely try to get a bigger room next time. We did have a bath tub though, and the bathroom was really well planned out for a tiny bathroom, and the heated floor made it cozy and warm. We are a skinny family, so we fit in there well, if you're a bigger person, try to get a bigger room.
In my reservation, breakfast was not included, and when we decided to have breakfast at the hotel it's pretty overpriced. It's a regular breakfast buffet, nothing special, the fruit wasn't ripe enough, tasted sour, but everything else was good, yet it didn't feel like it was worth the price. Luckily the kid could eat with us for free. The room service is also pricey. I know that Moscow is a pricey place, but I think that for travellers who don't always know where to get food, it's important to have an option of an affordable meal. It's OK to have expensive things on the menu, but why not get some simpler menu items. We had the kid asking for food late at night and we didn't know about that 24/7 store nearby, so we thought about room service - pancakes were over $30, because they came with caviar, our child does not eat caviar, why not offer simple pancakes at a lower price for guests who just want a bite to eat - isn't that why you enjoy room service, it's not about luxury but about convenience, I believe.
Overall I'd say this hotel offered everything that was important for our family, we enjoyed staying there and we'd be happy to come back (to a bigger room, hopefully). Especially now that we know the hotel area, I think it's a great place to stay in central Moscow, and I hope they keep getting better and better.

Room Tip: Get a bigger room, a standard room is very small.

Dear Guest,
I was very pleased to learn how much you enjoyed your stay at Golden Apple Hotel and I would like to thank you for letting us know how impressed you were with the service you received. Also I want to express my special gratitude for the mention of the fact that our ”staff was very nice, friendly and helpful”.
May I apologize for the disappointment you have expressed regarding the restaurant menu. We don’t have a “kid’s menu”, but we offer a big variety of the dishes that can be used as a kid’s meal. For example: Pancakes with warm Canadian maple syrup and fruits, French toasts sautéed in egg with cinnamon, Fresh porridge assortment (wheat, oatmeal, rice or buckwheat), French fries or fried mozzarella cheese; Sandwiches, Soups and so and so. Please be assured, we do value all guest comments and I have reviewed the issues raised with our Food and Beverage Manager.
We are grateful for your support of Golden Apple Hotel and hope that we will continue to have the pleasure of your company in a future.

Best regards,

Elena Orlova

2 couples stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting Moscow for the 1st time. It provided a good base for our many walking trips into Red Square to visit all the tourist spots. The hotel was very clean and the reception staff were exceptionally helpful. There was always an English speaking member of staff available. The breakfast was included and was very nice, with plenty of variety, hot and cold, to keep you going until lunchtime. We stayed on the 'red floor'. Do use the lovely jacuzzi and sauna on the ground floor. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

For a business trip this hotel was fine. Well located in central moscow and pleasant staff. Decor in the rooms a bit 'unique' (painted bathroom floor and curtains with zips). Nice bar on the ground floor.

This hotel is advertised as 5-star all around the internet, but it’s a 3-star hotel at best. Price seems good when you think you’re booking a 5-star hotel, but actually we felt like we overpaid given the condition of the hotel. I don’t think this hotel is honestly marketed on the web. The details that make this hotel a “boutique” hotel were not attractive at all either.
Pros:

- Close to Tverskaya Street
- Breakfast was included with our booking via hotel website and it was a pretty good breakfast, included good quality smoked salmon
- ATM machine at the lobby, which can directly convert foreign exchange into RUB without the need of a card.

Cons:
- Very narrow, dark corridors, makes you feel claustrophobic.
- Extremely small room and bathroom, you can easily hit your elbows on the walls while showering.
- We booked a room with two beds and the beds were like kid’s beds and yet still there was no room left inside the room.
- Not enough space to store suitcases or clothes or coats so everything was on the floor, and you have to jump between the items to walk inside the room – did I mention the room was small?
- The quality of materials (carpet, beds, desks, chairs etc.) used were average.
- The view was awful, looking at an inner courtyard-attic type place.
- They charged close to $7 for 0.25ml water from minibar.
- In general the staff was unfriendly, concierge had no clue about Moscow and was a very opinionated one.

we spent an enjoyable holiday staying at the Apple Boutique Hotel in Moscow. The hotel is a good compromise quality / price. The location is very good: close to the subway and you can reach the center by foot (20 minutes) with a beautiful walk. The rooms are comfortable although a bit small. Breakfast is included iand is definitely high quality. Do not underestimate the tranquility and silence of the rooms and the availability of jacuzzi and sauna.

Average hotel with high prices, what else do you expect in Moscow, BUT.....

The styling is like Novotel in France in the 1990's. A mixture of the old and new. The bathroom had a painted concrete floor and the shower curtain did not fit the shower, so water everywhere. A stainless steel sink. The bed was a metal frame bed which scars your shins. The breakfast buffet was cold though it tasted OK. Room service is pricey but again it is tasty.

Now the BUT explanation. The rooms are very clean and serviced well. The hotel is well located for Red Square, 30 mins and two Metro stations, 5 to 10 mins.. There is always an English speaker on reception, 24/7, and they are extremely helpful. There are good restaurants nearby, try Olivetta, pricey but good though with small portions. The best part is - around 300 metres away is a 24/7 supermarket with an excellent choice of food, cheese and wines. Not expensive and can save you a lot of money on restaurant bills. The French cheese selection is a lot better than you see in the UK at Waitrose, etc. They have a very good selection of quality French wines. And other foods.

The driving in Moscow is different to say the least. The hire cars they use to take you to the airport are driven by relations of Vettel. So close your eyes. Mine was doing over 140 kph in a 90 kph limit. Hotel to airport 20 mins.

All in all I will use this hotel again.

Four of us stayed here for 3 nights. Paid about £150 per night per room and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. It is 5 minutes walk from the Tverskaya Metro station at the top of Tverskaya Avenue and 30 minutes walk from Red Square. Decent rooms on a quiet road. Good range of breakfast food and you can have additional cooked to order as well - all in the price.
Would recommend it. Also a sauna and jacuzzi to soothe aching limbs after walking all over Moscow! Quirky decor in the rooms and funky furnishings.
