Holiday Inn Moscow Suschevsky
Ranked #42 of 327 Hotels in Moscow
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Since I booked this hotel through touristic agency I got a bit lower price than the reception price.
The hotel is eligent and resembles in style all the HI chain.
The hotel is located 5 min walk from the metro and the way from metro to the hotel is fully underground so you be affected by the weather.
Breakfast is great but WiFi is only in the restaurant and lobby.

The room was comfortable, very clean and everything was in working order. The lobby was inviting with the restaurant and bar adjacent. The front desk staff was friendly, helpful and proficient in English, which we greatly appreciated. Prior to arrival, the staff was also very helpful and responsive in obtaining the "invitation" which is needed for your Russian visa and is provided as a free service when staying at the hotel. The workout facilities were better than 90% of the hotels in the US.
The location was fantastic and safe. It was a short (5 min) walk to the Metro, via an underground walkway with many vendors and shops. This Metro location was just outside the outer loop of the Metro system, which provided access to all of Moscow within minutes (Kremlin 10 min, Arbat Street 17 min). This was also key in returning to Sheremetyevo Airport by rail system. There is a little 24 hour market right next to the hotel, which was stellar for grabbing snacks, fresh baked goods, fruit and beverages including cold beer. Definitely a great base location for the value.

The hotel qualifies for a 4 star hotel with its room service and cleanliness. The air conditioning works well, the room service and restaurant are very good. You can go to the city center with subway, and the reception helps you to find the way on the subway map. It was a very nice stay.

Room Tip: A room at a high floor like 9th floor would have a better view especially during white nights.

We stayed here for three nights as part of a SAGA package holiday. The hotel itself was pretty good with nice bedrooms, a reasonable restaurant and pleasant staff. We found the bar prices were high but on the next block is a small supermarket which sold beer and was open 24 hrs/day. For any other alcohol there is a large supermarket through the subway on the opposite side of the ring road which was open until 10pm. Of course its consumption has to be in your room. Next to the large supermarket was the Metro which, if you are confident with the language, can get you around the city for a one off price of around 50 pence provided you don't leave the Metro system. We found the area around the hotel pretty drab and not somewhere you would want to stroll around. Its a shame becuse I would have preferred to have stayed within walking distance of the centre.

Room Tip: Try to get a room which is on the ring road side of the hotel. We were on the fourth floor and beyon...

You would not know from the inside of your room which country you were in.

The room itself was very clean, kept clean and the bed was changed daily - something you appreciate when the temperature is approaching 40 Centigrade!

I'd joined the IHG loyalty club specifically to get free internet for our stay here. I had no problem in giving them my membership number and getting the free internet. This WIFI signal worked very well indeed and was one of the best I've had in a hotel.

We were travelling as part of a Cosmos tour and this tour included several meals in the hotel. All meals taken in the hotel were from a buffet. This is adequate but not good. The hot food is almost cold and isn't very enjoyable to eat.

We went for a drink at the bar on our first evening. £7.00 for 50cl of larger! we didn't drink there again on our trip.

Having now been to Moscow I know that good food is not one of the reasons for going there. Although the food in the restaurant was poor it was still one of the better places we found to eat. For our last meal on our own we went to the restaurant at the supermarket by the metro station. The name translates as Viennese Cafe although I can't remember either it's Cyrillic or transliterated name. It looks like a rather tatty cafe from the outside but was the best food we found in the area. It's not listed on TA so mobile guides don't show it. The staff spoke some English and had a menu in English and with pictures - very important to a non Russian speaker.

Breakfast at the hotel was quite acceptable. Again it was a buffet with a mix of Western and Russian breakfast foods. I particularly liked their pancakes :)

The location of the hotel was fine for us because we were on a tour. It was possible (but hard) to get something to eat. There is a subway outside the hotel which I would not have walked through had it been in a similar neighbourhood in London but it seemed quite safe here and we were quite happy to walk through it late at night. Red Square is only about a 20 minute metro ride from the station near the hotel but I couldn't recommend this hotel to someone who was trying to do Moscow on their own as I feel it is just too far out of the centre.

One other thing to add is that everyone that we came into contact with at the hotel spoke English. Most spoke it very well indeed. When I read reviews here before I went pitied people who couldn't manage basic tasks in a foreign language - Cyrillic Is so different that help is needed almost everywhere. When you see that somewhere speaks English that is important.

The Trip Advisor App is of very little use in Moscow as it gives transliterated restaurant names where, on the street, the restaurant sighs are only in Cyrillic.

If H Inn is renowned for one thing it's consistency. This one is well located with friendly and professional staff and an efficient visa documentation system which is a great help.
The room I had was at the rear of the hotel and was remarkably quiet given the central location.
Handy for the underground station too.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the rear away from the traffic and choose a high floor.
