This is a typical soviet hotel. With old soviet style service, the rooms are from 1940's, most people working the are about to retire, the rooms are very small and bathrooms even smaller. Surprisingly they have a very good Korean restaurant in the basement which is quiet good and serve decent food, the breakfast is ok typical Russian dishes, the staff are nice but stern looking, there are few good restaurants within walking distance, I liked one called Harley Davidson, it is a western style restaurant with every one dressed as cowboys, was fun to be there, food was ok.
If you would like to have the soviet experience this is the place to stay,

This hotel is old and has steadfastly held on to many of the ideals of a former era. The rooms, while clean, are basic and often smell of smoke which is engrained in the walls and carpet. The wifi is unreliable in the guest rooms - you will have more success sitting in the elevator hall (there are chairs) or in the lobby. Service is hit and miss; you will get what you asked for but unlikely to be accompanied by a smile or the output of any additional effort. The walls are thin and there is a nightclub on the top floor which can be heard up to three floors down. On the upside, the views of the river are nice and the hotel is located on a quiet street.

Room Tip: Get a view of the river, if you can.

This hotel is fine if don't need internet, don't need to sleep, and are an avid smoker. I travel regularly to about 10 Russian cities for business and this hotel always guarantees an unpleasant experience (I have to stay here because my company has a contract with them - though I am contacting the office this week to suggest we change hotels when this contract ends).

The internet in this hotel very rarely works, and when it does it goes at a snail's pace. It's far too slow for skype to function, and even a single email can take several minutes to send. Though there are a few ladies working at reception who are professional and pleasant enough, overall the service is easily the least professional I've had in Russia. They can be very rude in response to requests (I asked reception to order me a taxi today, something they've done in the past with no problems, and I was answered with an appalled 'You expect me to do this for you?").

Also, there are often rowdy groups here, which can be very loud, and if they don't keep you up all night then it will be the music from the upstairs club that you'll feel pounding on your bed until close to 5am. In short, if you're a wealthy teenager or wealthy young tourist, then you might not mind staying here. If you are trying to do business of any sort, do yourself a favor and find another place. Even a hostel would be better than here.

Room Tip: The only reason I didn't give this hotel the worst possible rating is that the rooms themselves are fairly nice, a comfortable bed, good clean bath, and they offer some lovely views. However, if you're a non-smoker you'll need to order a non-smoking room well in advance, and when you arrive you're going to have to argue with them to get it. It might help if you bring the printed out reservation where it says you ordered a non-smoking room, but that's no guarantee. Also, the neighbors are often quite noisy and the music from the upstairs club can be heard as far down as the 7th floor until close to 6am.

Every year I return to the hotel further improvements have been made.
- Dining area completely renovated
- The small foyer Cafe has gone with dining improvements
- The small shop as been modernised, now less a soviet and with a wider range of stock. More like a 711 store with reasonable prices
- Credit cards not only accepted but welcomed
- The free WiFi appears to have been improved
My room was to a good 3-4 standard, a pity the smoke free rooms were gone.

Room Tip: Ask for a river facing room to enjoy the river and rural views

We stayed at the hotel Intourist for one night from Oct 21 until 22, 2012. Has the feel of past Soviet era, room small but clean. Free Wifi in rooms available. Staff not overly friendly, breakfast buffet basic. Enjoyed the view from room over Amur river and proximity of riverside walk and city centre. Were a bit shocked that they charged us for left luggage especially since the hotel was one of the most expensive during our trip on the Transsib Rail.
