Yes it is a bit out of the city but after 2 1/2 days on an aeroplane it was a welcome respite. The staff were absolutely brilliant, the room was clean and very quiet (which is important for me). The walk into the city was always interesting and needed exercise. The breakfast was good.
The receptionist arranged a taxi for us to the station. After dropping us off the driver came back to take me to the hotel again as I had forgotten my memory cards there. The receprionist called him to let him know.
I would recomend this hotel to friends.

This hotel is rather deceptive. At first sight, it seems to be very European and ticks the boxes (swimming pool, night club, spa etc) but it is not what you think it would be. The room was okay, but absolutely stank of cigarette smoke. The air con unit sounded like a helicopter was landing in the room - it was obviously broken and a few swift smacks seemed to cut the noise but only a bit. The breakfast was pretty deplorable (instant coffee, a few slices of cheese and a few bits of ham and some rather strange bits of food that are hard to identify). The bath was fitted so that the water from the shower flowed down the wall, along the top of the bath, past the taps and then poured all over the floor. Gallons of it!!! Literally two inches of water all over the bathroom floor when I got out. Yet it LOOKS like a smart hotel and looks pretty new. Yes, it is in a strange place (tower blocks, railway nearby) but "TIR" [this is russia]. It is NOT the West. It is NOT europe; It is NOT america.

The hotel is well patronised by Korean and Chinese folks, mostly seeming on business. Also a lot of Russians staying there no doubt on business. A good mix of cultures to enjoy.

The bar seemed to be closed whenever you wanted a drink, and the restaurant closed when you wanted to eat. Maybe our times are out, but I was surprised. On the up side? It was better than the hotel we were in the nights before and the staff were really nice. Not many places to eat round about but a recommendation by the hotel was good: chinese/korean food about a fifteen minute walk away was excellent. Buses to "downtown" are easy to use once you know how. There is a bus stop at the end of the road to the right in a lay by (the big bus pic is covered with a tree's foliage so look for the crowd waiting). You get on the middle door and don't pay until you get off. The fare (currently 11 roubles) is standard fare and once you see the railway station on the right, get off. It is about a ten-fifteen minute journey. Vlad is a fantastic city for walking around. See the station; the Ocean centre, the front, the architecture... a complete absence of american tack (McDonalds, KFC etc) leading to a haven of non american kitsch.

The hotel was situated out of the town in a rather bizarre area in amongst blocks of flats and close to the railway lines. At first glance it seemed to be fine, then we tried to eat in the restaurant. The first sign of trouble was a cockroachrunning about in the menu! Then, I think it took about 2 and a half hours! Courses didn't arrive together, or even at all. They ran out of beer after 1 bottle each, and they seemed to think it acceptable that a side order of french fries arrived after the ice cream! The food itself wasn't bad at all. The rooms were fine, but breakfast was also visited by the cockroaches.Fitness centre was payable as was the swimming pool, which had rather murky water.
