We ate in The Summer Terrace as a breakaway from our tour group. I ordered New Zealand Lamb Cutlets, which tasted wonderful after the gross Colorado lamb chops which you get in America. They were lean, pink and accompanied by a delicious sauce and excellent chips. Staying authentic, my wife enjoyed her Beef Stroganoff, commenting that it was almost as good as the Stroganoff she cooks herself. Together with a Palazzo Grimaldi Rose, it was a delicious interlude. Service was prompt and efficient even with smiles, which are sometimes hard to find in Russia.

Beautiful venue, wonderful service, and fabulous food but the highlight of the evening was the entertainment - string quartet and Russian ballet, followed by a bit of Russian opera. The chefs special rolls with nuts and cheese were so yummy, we had several! My daughter loved the truffled scrambled eggs in an egg (minus the caviar), and I loved the lobster and the crab. Delicious chocolate and snickers desserts as well! Expensive, but a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The service, the music and the atmosphere of this wonderful dining experience was surpassed only by the food and drink. I can't imagine anyone visiting St. Petersburg without a visit to L'Europe in the Grand Hotel Europe. It's a visual delight with stained glass ceiling and panels that speak of the elegance of the experience and distinction that this restaurant holds among St. Petersburg's best. Thank you for making our last night in St. Petersburg the most memorable!

This was recommended by our concierge and the guide books and they were right. We went for the Tchaikovsky night and we had the best food of our holiday there whilst watching scenes from a Tchaikovsky ballet. Expensive yes, but its Russia and you get what you pay for. We were made to feel like a million dollars and when you add up that you get fine dining plus a ballet show in a historic setting, it was worth ever sent for the memories.

This restaurant was mentioned in several guides as the best of St Petersburg, so high hopes and expectations for a great food experience. To include typical russian dishes, I decided to eat a la carte despite the stratospheric price level (4 course meal, with 3 glasses of wine, almost 250 dollars !!!!). And how disappointing it was. The amuse to start the dinner was some fresh fruit on crushed ice ..... an insulting lack of imagination. The starter that followed was immediately the best of the whole evening, tasty truffle oil eggs topped with caviar.... if only the rest of the dinner would be of this quality .....The beet root soup, chosen because of the typical russian origin, is something to try once, but not of particular sophistication to deserve a listing on a high class restaurant menu. The main course was a total disaster, a prime rib of such poor quality meat, it would put any restaurant to shame. The dish didnt contain much meat, just fat running through it. Leaving most of it uneaten and despite the waiter's apologies, nothing was done by the restaurant to make up for this. What a disgrace for an 80 dollar dish ... The final desert, although an enjoyable parfait, could not take away the disappointment. Take home message, some restaurants drive on prestige, but in the end you pay an enormous amount of money for a bad food experience. A better example of taking out the old and embracing new restaurant culture you can not have.
